MarketTantrik
Need a seperate pc dedicated to just HD video transcoding and streaming. Can someone suggests some specs? I don't need to use it for anything else, so would like to spend min price there. A Core2Duo is more than sufficient for HD transcoding and streaming. I have a Windows Home Server set up and I use an "off-the-shelf" Acer Aspire small form factor PC and it works brilliantly. Specs: Intel C2D 2.93 GHz 4 GB Ram Even a basic 2.4 GHz C2D with 2GB of Ram is more than adequate for what you've stated. You'll most likely be using Tversity or PS3 Media Server. PS3MS is much better. I went for a beefier config because I am running all sorts of media streaming services on the machine.
Noctis
^Thanks, been cut off from this for a while so was not really sure. Will go for the above specs then. Any site where I can check the Indian prices of pc parts?

ReD
Cabinet : Cooler Master CM690 is a personal favorite @ Rs. 4500RAM: Mushkin DDR3 Silverline is pretty sweet @ Rs. 6210 for 4GB (from PRIME ABGB's website) but shows up @ Rs. 5250 on TheITWare's website. HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda's around Rs. 4050 DVD Drive : HP/Sony/LG around Rs. 1200 Video Card: ATI HD5850's around Rs. 15000 Total works out around Rs. 30,960 (taking PRIME's pricing on RAM into account) you could cut corners if you got el-cheapo Transcend RAM and a smaller HDD. I wouldn't go for a lower video card or a lower spec'd cabinet simply because the CM690 is imho, good enough to carry on for 2-3 system builds at least. if i drop the gfx card for now using my current 8600GT for it unless ATI Cards prices are dropped under 10k what do you suggest
Solitaire
www.deltapage.com That's the Delta Peripherals shop in Nakoda plaza in Ritchie Street right? Bought more than a lakh's worth of stuff from him, has pretty good prices. Sadly, his attitude when you email about service is dismal, but you can email him for quotes and he'll reply almost immediately with prices sometimes lower than what's on the site. OT: @ReD what happened after morning's shoutbox post?
memnom
@ReD, drop ur video card, stick with the 8600gt in a month u would see price reductions then u can jump one the ATi bandwagon.
ReD
What resolution do you game at and what games are you looking to play? I don't see the HD5850 hitting 10K anytime soon. i am not much of a PC gamer rite now all i want is a Fast PC i open a lot of windows (Firefox chrome office msn etc etc) at the same time and my Current PC sometimes hangs so not too much after the Graphics card now wat abt the Ram and HDD and cabinet and a cooler

Ne0
Hi guys, Just let me know your comments on this laptop from Sony. I'm thinking of buying this instead of a desktop. The performance might not be at par, but the laptop has 1GB Dx11 gfx card, so should be able to play most of the games in the coming years atleast at low-mid settings. What do u guys say ? Let me know your opinion.
MarketTantrik
Why settle for low-med settings?
Aftrunner
It will get you medium settings but unless you have need for a PC on the go I would really recommend against buying a laptop for gaming.

Let me know your opinion. It will give you the same performance as a Core2duo 3.0 ghz with 9600GT card. Atleast mine does i got this one http://www.sony-mea.com/product/vpccw2agg but i have a feeling my GPU is underpowered compared to the laptop you have chosen. It will get you medium settings but unless you have need for a PC on the go I would really recommend against buying a laptop for gaming. I already have two consoles but both require a stationary place and power to work. With the amount of powercuts going on currently, laptop would be better instead of a desktop. Of course, the performance would not be the same. But then again, I would get to alteast game when there is no power or in my bedroom/when i'm outside etc. And it occupies such less space as compared to a desktop. Anyway, I'm still on the fence. Afty, any particular reason you don't recommend a laptop ?

Ne0
Meh. Proc is okay-ish, no idea on video card. I'd say buy a desktop instead. video card benchmarks look decent: http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-...50.23697.0.html Does the processor make much difference in gaming ? MarketTantrik
Dude, a gaming laptop will get at most 1.5 hours of run time before the battery dies down. What will you do after that?
