Aftrunner
Ugh avoid MSI products like the f**king plague. Their service center in Delhi is absolutely useless. This is the third time I had to give them a GPU to be repaired (not the same GPU). EVERY single time they keep it for a week. Do nothing. Send it back as "fixed". Useless twats. And the problem isnt even so complicated that you could miss it. Plug it in and play any video or game and there are artifacts all over the screen. piper
How's a 6870 for gaming (BF3/MaxPayne3) at 1080p on med/high settings? And would my existing proccy (Athlon X2 240 - dual core 2.80 GHz) be much of a bottleneck for most of today's games? I want to delay mobo+proc upgrade for a little later (couple of months maybe) and was considering picking up a GFX card + PSU in the meantime. AtheK
you should invest in a cheaper GPU if you plan to invest later on Proc + Mobo. Usually as a thumb rule, upgrade these three things together, or else at that time your video card will be a bottleneck. Buy a second hand card amd/nvidia and save the cash for the upgrade later

Usually as a thumb rule, upgrade these three things together, or else at that time your video card will be a bottleneck. Buy a second hand card amd/nvidia and save the cash for the upgrade later I'm getting a 6870 for 10k (2nd hand, but bought in June, so nearly 3 yrs warranty remaining). A new one costs around 12.5k or so. The way I see it, it is easier to upgrade a GFX card as it is a single item. Because it is way easier to sell off any old graphics card as compared to selling off a CPU+Mobo+RAM. So I'm thinking I should buy a card of choice this week. Then, a couple of months for research and then invest in a solid CPU+Mobo+RAM combo. So that maybe 2-3 years down the line, that combo will still hold me in decent stead and I'll just have to upgrade my GFX card then. What say? Immediate decision GFX : 6870 as it offers pretty good performance and doesn't cost too much. PSU : Seasonic 520W should be decent (It goes upto 600+ watts while still retaining 80+ efficiency). It was for less than 4k on Flipkart last week (now it is 4200+, my bad on not ordering then itself). Near future decision CPU : I'm wowed by the FX8120 black edition. That should last me a decent time I should say. It has double the cores recommended for most of today's games. At least a 6core proccy. Motherboard : Don't have the slightest idea. I guess a decent board that supports the CPU (wattage wise) should be fine enough. There's something about this that just wowed me (saw it yesterday being assembled, and I am in love ). AtheK
Well old timers here know i am Nvidia Fan, so i would always buy a 560 over anything AMD has. BUt since you have AMD proc 6870 seems like a good deal.
ThE JuGgErNaUT
Im more of a beliver of sjngle point buys. Go for the full thing in one go bro. First the proc & mb. Then gpu afrer a month or so Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
AtheK
Me too agree with juggernaut, as a matter of fact you are getting a 12k card for 10k, rather go for 4 series that compliments your current proc and mobo for like 5k, save the 5k for later. piper
Well, I have little knowledge of NVIDIA series so can't really measure which one of NVIDIA's offerings compares to the 6870. Pricewise both are same. As long as the card is good, I do not have any inclination towards either AMD/NVIDIA. Even this one looks good - http://www.flipkart.com/zotac-nvidia-geforce-gtx-560-ti-oc-1-gb-gddr5-graphics-card/p/itmd4uwpxxgqygfy . And 5yr warranty (easier to sell off later ). Of course, if a certain used 460 was available for really cheap... Edit : I've been trying to get 4850 / 4870 from Erodov : missed 3 deals in last month . Trying to get a 4870 512MB for less than 3k (lets see what the guy on Erodov replies to my PM...). Edited August 5, 2012 by piper
AtheK
560 looks good and is comparable or as always better for me then 6870 Nvidia is currently in 6 series(Extremely expensive though) Ypu can still have 460, give me some good offer i might think
piper
Okay, so what was being suggested : Get a used 48xx or 58xx card within 5k presently. And later on upgrade GFX,CPU+Mobo+RAM entirely (selling off all existing components). Correct? I'm getting a 4870 for 3k and a 5850 for 5k (this one is under warranty). Best option Okay, now waiting for the 5850 guy to reply to my PM. And on Erodov, some dude bought a 4870 for 3200 (a deal I missed out on, my bad) and is now offering to sell it to me for 4200.
