Gaming PCs

i5 based might not be possible. The proc + mobo itself will cost you around 17k. But I'll wait for Afty's recommendation, even I'm in line for building a gaming PC - and cheaper the better :fear:

what i5 proc+mobo combo is 17k?

Ok stole this from Techenclave.

Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 550 - 5.2k or Athlon II X4 620 - 5.3k

Motherboard: Biostar TA790GXB A3+ - 6k

RAM: Transcend 2GB DDRIII 1333MHz - 2.5k

GPU: Sapphire 4850 512MB DDRIII- 6.5k

HDD: Seagate 500GB SATAII 7200.12 series- 2.4k

Cabinet: CM Elite 334 - 2.2k

SMPS: Gigabyte Superb 460W - 2.2k

Optical Drive: L.G. GH22NS30 SATA/Samsung SH-S22F SATA - 1.1k

The motherboard should give you good options for upgrades in the future (2 PCI slots, DDR 3 Ram options etc.) If you can stretch your budget a bit more get a 5770 and a better PSU. Or at least a 4870 for good future proofing.

The rig as it is will play all current games at high-very high settings (Crysis might make it sweat a bit though). And considering there are no PC exclusives like Crysis coming anytime soon that means PC will be getting console ports in the coming few years, which means you should be fine with it for a while.

Edit Jeri, we have the same sources? :fear:

:fear::rofl: They got some of the best builders out there..

Actually my pick is lil bit more powerful than urs.... albeit pricier too. check the GPU's.

4850 is already fighting for breath's...

Is 2GB RAM enough to play most current games at high settings ?

Yeah. Even if it isnt RAM is the cheapest option in there and the easiest to upgrade. It costs like 800 bucks for a GB of RAM and you can pop one in the PC in less than 60 seconds. So after 2 GB RAM should be your lowest priority as you can upgrade it with no hassles.

Edit @ Jeri LOL yeah a 4870 would be a better option if you can spend an extra 2-3k. If you can push it a little more then a 5770 is the next best option.

hi, please give me an idea about a gaming pc for 30,000 at current prices.

dont include monitor and dvd drive/burner, quote prices for the rest.

I want a pc that can handle games till dec 2011-jan 2012. dont want anything super AAA or what, if the games look at par (better also welcome) with the ps3 then its ok. Main aim is to cut down expensive price for ps3 games and play mass effect 2

i dont know much about pc apart from the fact that 4850 and 4870 are best value for money.

Recently I thought my rig had conked off (8800GTX + 6gb ram + E6750 OC'd to 3.2Ghz) and I was hoping hard that the processor had gone :nerves: so that I could bug my father for a new processor. Upon searching plenty I found myself in a big dilemma. My processor upgrade options were limited - thanks to my LGA775 socket motherboard and I'd have had to get a high-end Quad core just for the sake of upgrading (got a relative in Intel, Arizona who can get me Intel stuff at half price once a year but never used her advantage). To upgrade I'd have had to change the whole damn motherboard, chuck off my RAM (DDR2) and get new DDR3 sh*t just to upgrade to an i7 or i5. :D

Sat and looked up all this info (I got study hols right now until my exams start on tuesday btw) for 2 whole days. Then I went and tried unplugging the power to the M/B and plugging it back. Then reset the CMOS by taking out the battery.... The damn thing started booting again :samui:

Upgradation dreams shattered

Oh well, my machine still plays every game at medium-high well. :/

EDIT: @x360 wait for a while till all the directx11 cards are out. Else you could go for an ATI 5870 (for DX11) or an Nvidia GTX 295.

nemo bro, all the best and right decision...it will save a lot of money and the best thing if you dont have a personal tv.
