Ph3N0M
^^ Tell Amazon to mark it as a gift, this is to further make sure that no one acts like a 'ghanta' at Customs. Till Q2 2013 you can expect AMD HD8*** series to out, not so sure on nVidia's response. This is because nVidia yields on moving to new manufacturing nodes is miserly at best of times. Well, Amazon doesn't ship SSDs to India, so this will be my first SnS purchase. They'll charge $10 for shipping, plus customs, if any. Will certainly be worth it imo. Ph3N0M
I'm getting either Samsung 840 series or OCZ Vertex 4 series(both new launches). Hopefully 256GB. Both are at $200 now, but should go for a $20-30 discount at BF. Edited October 29, 2012 by Ph3N0M

Benchruns --> SAMSUNG 840 v. OCZ Vertex4. ^^ Above benchmarks show that the SAMSUNG SSD based off their own MLC design is faster than a greased weasel in the benchmarks but the Vertex4 catches up where it is needed (4K random read / write performance), also I have no idea how reliable the former's controller and MLC are (being so new). Hope this helps, Cheerio! Edited October 30, 2012 by ALPHA17

Hope this helps, Cheerio! Thanks. I have around $710 in Amazon store credit. Original plan was to use 200 on SSD and rest 500 on a GPU. Now that I'm getting a GPU in April-May, don't know how much longer I can hold onto those 500 if they drop something irresistible on BF. And I guess importing a GPU without someone to take it with him defeats the whole purpose of it, as the total cost again comes real close to Indian pricing. And my brother can always give me 200-300 bucks when needed. So it's highly likely that I'll buy something else too on BF. Maybe not PC related. BTW, I somehow feel more comfortable with the Samsung brand for storage devices(read hard drives). Never heard of OCZ before looking for a SSD> Edited October 30, 2012 by Ph3N0M

Never heard of OCZ before looking for a SSD> ^^ SAMSUNG hard-drive division was taken over by Seagate last year, the SSD division is a completely different branch of the MNC. OCZ is a well known memory brand (think Corsair, G.Skill) outside India and were among the pioneers of the SSD revolution. Hope this helps, Cheerio! Ph3N0M
I think I'll buy just a SSD from Amazon on this Black Friday, since it's so light that self-importing is not much of a hassle. With the unexpected change of schedule of my brother, I don't have any choice but to postpone GPU purchase till next year March/April. Maybe GTX 700 series or AMD 8000 series will have launched by then. Till then, I can focus on my huge backlog on PS3/360. Will buy and install Windows 7 permanently once I get that SSD, as I don't want the hassles of changing storage locations of Windows system partitions. I'm getting more impatient everyday, and I think I may just ditch the idea of getting a 680, and get a 670 at BF, through Amazon's own shipping. Currently the GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 670 WINDFORCE 2X OC Edition can be got for $468 inclusive of shipping and customs, which I hope will be less than $450 at BF. Gotta get some patience. Ph3N0M
Source? Sweet Poison was correct(repped). Source is this. Now how are the Kingston SSDNow V+200 drives in comparison to the OCZ Vertex 4/Samsung 840/Corsair Neutron series? It is SandForce MLC and controller not recommended over the SAMSUNG 840 series OR OCZ Vertex4 stick to the latter please -- Benchrun. How about repping me too Ghanta-jee. Hope this helps, Cheerio! Arre aapko toh hum na jane kitne baar rep kar chuke hain. Leejiye, ek aur baar kar dete hain. And, I already know that HyperX is kinda like "last-gen" in SSD technology. Probably you didn't read the previous post from Sweet Poison where he said that Kingston give international warranty for all its products, which is what is working in their favour. Any benchmarks comparing a Kingston SSD with the Vertex 4/Samsung 840/Corsair Neutron?
ALPHA17
Here you go, Sire -- Kingston HyperX vs. Corsair Neutron (240GB) --> Benchrun Kingston HyperX vs. OCZ Vertex4 --> Benchrun II Kingston HyperX vs. SAMSUNG 840 --> Benchrun III The SAMSUNG SSD has a TLC (Triple Level Cell) controller architecture, I cannot say how it affects the reliability of the drive in the long run. As of now, I recommend the Corsair Neutron OR OCZ Vertex4. Hope this helps, Cheerio! P.S. -- Thanks for the tip, Sire Edited November 5, 2012 by ALPHA17
Ph3N0M
Just emailed Corsair to see if they honor international warranty on Neutron SSD(they don't mention anything regarding limitation of warranty to original country apparently). Is trading a bit of performance for better local support/warranty(and even price) worth it? PS: Your first link needs to be fixed.

Yep, mainly due to warranty. Is it a good trade-off? It would have been so much better if Kingston didn't give international warranty. That way, I wouldn't have much dilemma. Oh, the irony! Keeping the warranty aspect in mind, yes that is the best bet you have. So go for it. And you are migrating from a none SSD environment to a SSD so the disparity in performance is sufficient that you will not feel much of a difference if you go for a Corsair Neutron OR SAMSUNG series 840 SSD. Hope this helps, Cheerio!
