sanman
I think Wii could stand for a renewal in about 2 years time. After all, its graphics are quite out of date, even though developers like High Voltage and their Quantum3 engine have definitely taken it to new heights. Since the average console lifespan has been 5 years, I'm hoping that Nintendo will announce a Wii-2 by end of 2010, then release it in fall 2011 (roughly around when Natal will come out). Ahead of that, Nintendo can start pricecuts on Wii this holiday season. Meanwhile, I wish more developers would try to do what High Voltage has done, and show creativity and skill in squeezing the most out of Wii's graphics and processing capabilities. Personally, I feel a lot of respect for developers who don't just sit back and coast on the great horsepower of a platform, but instead make an effort to pull out every scrap of processing power they can, in order to take that platform as far as it can go. After all, the Wii's install base is huge, since it's already the fastest-selling and most successful console in history. There are still plenty of great games that could be made on it, especially now that Motionplus has come out, with its 1:1 motion fidelity. I've already pre-ordered Sports Resort, and I think it's going to be a blast.

sanman
Naw, the hardcorriors need to step back and appreciate what the Wii has done. It's given us motion control and greater interaction. If I want best possible graphics, I can go to my PC, since that blows any console away, and that will always be the case for PC-vs-console. When you see Activision hollering at Sony in a way that they've never done before, then you know something's wrong there. By the time PS3 gets the same market penetration as Wii, it'll be totally obsolete, and Sony doesn't have the money to upgrade that platform. PS3 is a technological success, but a marketing failure, which is why Ken Kutaragi is out of a job. I have to give praise where it's due to Microsoft, for their Project Natal, but if it gets introduced in 2011 in place of a new console, then they're going to be the next ones to be accused of sporting last-generation graphics. 360 was introduced in 2005, remember? I think Nintendo seems to have the right stride. They shifted into motion control, and it's taken years for others to play catch-up with them. Next they'll go in for a major graphics re-vamp, and that'll leave the others scrambling to catch up yet again.
