Nintendo along with Hong Kong authorities have cracked down on a piracy operation with a raid that yielded 10,000 game copying devices.

Described as a “global distribution operation” for illegal copying devices and mod chips used for pirating DS and Wii games, authorities raided Supreme Factory Limited’s facilities on October 8 this year.

The raid lasted for three days, turning up pirating devices that enable users to upload DS games to the Internet for distribution and mod chips to play illegitimate Wii discs.

I must say this news pleases me greatly

Great news.

MS is also banning people of late in a very discreet manner. Lets see who in India gets the banhammer first :thumbsup:

>>Your account has been permanently disabled due to the use of pirated game media which is explicitly not permitted under the Xbox Live Terms of Use which you agree to upon creating your Xbox Live account.

For your reference, the Terms of User are posted on the Xbox.com (http://Xbox.com/) web site and in the Xbox Live user interface under Account Management.<<

it's an accepted parlance to describe:

"those groups and individuals involved with, but not limited to, such activities as; hacking, phreaking, anarchy, freedom of speech protest, cracking, cyber activism, piracy etc"

not really, if you're using a modded/flashed 360 then you'd better have the brains to decline any future live/dash updates till they have been certified/fixed by the 'scene'.

I don't see the point in playing hide and seek like a thief...its disgraceful.

I feel sad for people who have to resort to piracy and make excuses that they do it because the games are not released fast enough where they live or that they are too expensive.

One quick look at these guys tags prove that they are the shittiest possible gamers around and even if the game was cheap or released on time it would make no difference.

@V

The thief also would need to keep that tag offline as MS does have ways to detect pirated games popped on a profile :angry:

^ i thought m$ was only resorting to console banning (not bricking) <<

Console banning was just a start.

Do you even know much about Console banning, profile blacklisting and device id banning at all?

- havent heard/read of anybody's GT being banned for using pirated discs <<

That's probably because you rely on other websites for your info.

Some of us get it at work.

OK...is it me............ or does BP8 sound more and more like a PR for MS. lol. that not a bad thing, don't get me wrong. it seems someones getting the info from a much more "closer source" than others. its funny, but piracy in india has, in a way, helped MS with there sales. cos if pirated game couldn't be played on 360...... there wouldn't be alot of sales.

BP8 works for one of the three leading console manufacturers. Take your pick.

@Director

FYI I am nobody's PR bitch and I don't kiss a*s.

I am a "Hardcore" gamer who buys every single game released including rare EU versions. I own several of each console except the Wii which i don't care for. The only reason I am on the X360 is because of the content, XBL and the selection of Games. If Sony comes up with something better you will see me on the PSN in a heartbeat.

I review games for several Chinese game mags and contribute to a gaming channel. Loads of gaming sites contact me for achievement related info. I am totally against piracy as it hurts the industry eventually. Don't kid yourself that MS or any company benefits from Piracy..They don't. Its rampant piracy and discussions about piracy or modding that makes companies not want to be bothered with markets like India. This is why when I first gave Vin the idea of starting a community outside of the XBOX forums last year...I asked him to keep the site free of piracy and piracy related discussions. This was way before Sam, KC and CC were even involved with this site.

@Vin

Nope I don't wish to but most of your info on this issue is either limited or incorrect. There's a lot more than just "Console Bans" thats in the works.

IMO the bottom line is player skill that matters most. Having access to 10 X360 consoles, 65 inch tellies and all the pirated iso's would do nothing if the person is a shitty gamer and can barely chug through 1-2 levels in a game on easy. A gamer with no skill is not a gamer and should not be bothered portraying him/herself as one.

@BP8

take it easy mate, i didn't mean it offensively. but to be honest, ive always have and will be against piracy. but for me, coming to india.... things changed alot. when i called MS help line for Xbox repair, in regard to my warranty and all. the conversation finished by the lady on the other offering me to flash my 360 and offer me games for RS. 120. so really MS is kidding them selves if they think they are cutting out piracy. they can't even stop there own department from selling back ups.

Going to over 20 + production houses here..... you will not believe how many 360 ive seen with a crap load of back up next to them. LMAO. and with out getting in to trouble. seen too many actors and production teams trading and buying back ups.

the issue of piracy is not with selling........... but the morality of the buyer. if he or she feels they want to buy pirated game..... then they will. its impossible to change peoples mind.

A mate of mine... whom i might i add is a xbox fanboy to the core........ as had in total of 5 xbox 360 RRoD on him. hes on the 6th now. but he has just modded it and plays pirated stuff all the time now.... why?............ his way of being completely pissed off at a brand that he trusted. most people i know that mod their 360 is in pure retaliation because they have had numerous RRoD. Piracy will never end, an unfortunate part of life and human greed. i have done the best i can to resist pirated games and constantly preach on Pirate movies (career depends on it).

but its true....... 360 have sold alot more here because of piracy.

we've agreed to disagree on that point rene - i've always advocated freedom of information flow, so i'm all for encouraging technical discussions on the intricacies of consoles and the security system(s) they use - but you will never find any direct links to copyrighted materials or tools to circumvent them on GI (you can equate it to providing information on building bombs without taking any moral responsibility IF you want to)

glad to hear that m$ is taking some initiative - makes me question the system when someone is enjoying the same rewards at a fraction of the price that others have to pay. i dont want to sound hypocritical - i've flashed my box - it's out of region, out of warranty and might bail on me at any given time - so it's a calculated risk that i've decided to take - BUT i dont own a single backup of any x360 game to date, and even if i do go out and buy one tomorrow, i'll still be purchasing legit games as well (and if i remember correctly, you mentioned that you have a modded console lying around the house!)

i hope you arent taking potshots at me. i've never claimed to be the greatest gamer (or even anything remotely close to a skilled gamer) - but i've been gaming for a loooong time and i'm still very passionate about the happenings in the electronic entertainment industry <_<
