    Thanks, will wait for sale on an HDR TV - I personally would prefer 4K + HDR both.

    Whats the model number of the Haier TV - I too picked up the 55" 4K (non-curved) model for dirt cheap here - if it is the same model, can provide some insight.

  3. Without delving into too much detail, I'd say that this iteration is not as much fun, and rarely does a win feel as satisfying than it did in the last few Battlefield games. Maybe it is the vintage era, but this game is missing that large scale feel - instead there are smaller areas zones where one stays focused during a match.

     

    One good thing in this is Operations game mode - which is often fun to play as a team. Most other things are either the same or worse that BF4.

  4. Played a few rounds of conquest. This feels like a completely different game than the last 3 Battlefield iterations - and that's a great thing. Tanks are op - classes are so effin confusing - where's my fkin RPG!

     

    Not a big fan of desert maps - hope to see something jungle based, as well as some urban warfare.

  5. So been playing the BETA for close to two hours now, impressions,

    • The map (Sinai Desert) is huge
    • Game runs good, auto-defaults to the best settings based on your hardware, I think I was on the lower end of the scale and still managing a respectable ~100fps plus
    • There are a lot of good ideas in here but their implementation is all over the place so lets break it down

    PRO's

    • There is a definite emphasis on getting team-play up and a lot of incentives towards playing things in a collective fashion (will come back to this)
    • The animation and level of polish for a BETA technically is great, out of five matches played (CQ Large) all went smooth except one in which towards the end I was disconnected from the server (not sure if me only or general crash)
    • 3D spotting has been heavily, heavily nerfed. It is almost impossible for your screen to be filled up with cotton candy markers like was the case in BattleField 3 / 4
    • Grenade spam is gone, as you are heavily limited on the ammo side and I do not see a whole lot of supports
    • A consistent team which holds flags and or keeps the enemy off balance rather than those composed of few players who are very skilled has a better chance of winning the rounds
    • There are some wonderful audio cues if you are capping a point, getting healed up or picking up ammo

     

    CON's

    • There is a lot of randomness to how your bullet spread works. You can aim down sights and be pointing at someones head but landing the shot from anything but a sniper rifle is dodgy, especially noticeable in SMG's and semi-automatic carbines
    • No one plays support because, the guns are not fantastic and the mechanic of holding down fire to fire more accurately is counter intuitive and wasteful
    • No one is reviving consistently or dropping ammo till now (compounded by the fact that you can hold down space to speed up respawns)

    MEH

    • Tanks are an annoyance, especially if they are even partially supported by infantry or any other support vehicle, you get stomped on
    • Airplanes have zero influence on how things move because the point system no longer incentivises kills, everything is rooted to capping objectives
    • Team-play initiative is great but the lack of any actual in-game elements that reinforce this mentality means that unless you are playing with friends your mileage varies
    • Squads remain ineffectual at impacting the overall play in games being too small to significantly engage and overcome situations (squads should be increased in size)
    • Behemoth's are this game's levolution. Great the initial time to look at, they cannot change anything on their own though but because they spawn everytime a team is getting crushed it forces that team into a worse situation (splitting resources between the behemoth and actual capping duties)

    Also, all games were shorter or I felt so compared to the average game in BattleField 4.

     

    Will update more as it goes. Have yet to play RUSH.

    Downloaded the beta this morning, will play once back from work. Let the games begin!

  6. Running a build that has gone through iterations since 2012.

     

    Intel i5 2500k

    GSkill RipjawsX 4GB 1600MHz (2 sticks)

    ASRock Z75 Pro 3 motherboard

    Asus GTX 770 2GB Direct CU II OC

    Asus VG248QE 1080p 144Hz monitor

     

    I'm able to run Battlefield 4 at Ultra for near about 60fps.

     

    In order to get 60+ fps on max settings for upcoming games (read Battlefield 1), what upgrade(s) should I target?

     

    My strategy is :

    1. Upgrade RAM to 2133Mhz sticks - 8GB or 16GB?

    2. Upgrade GPU to a 4/8GB GPU - which one?

    Okay, my expectations are high because of the following releases,

    • because I see it from a point where it can be a much better skill based shooter which in-turn makes for a more mature player base hopefully
    • because most of the V-LOG's on YouTube will tell you to focus on your minimap and constantly spotting enemies at range, instead of reading the map to play the game. I mean remove the spotting and mini-map mechanics for everything but spotting vehicles and see how it changes your play-style. You will play more defensively, more deliberately, more concisely. Imagine a shooter on consoles without auto-aim, its like that
    • Accurate reproduction of weapons will stop the biggest problem in BattleField franchise till date, gravitating towards weapons with a high rate of fire. Remove too many automatic weapons, reduce the weapon types per-faction, again your engagement distance increases, your skill at engaging and prioritising targets and more importantly you will realise by the audio reports of the weapons whether you are in friendly lines or enemy lines.

    I do not mean everything has to be real or accurate but if you incorporate certain elements of game-play by the era and setting you are going for, you will see a change in how the game is played. How the meta changes and how players develop. This does not mean I want every LMG to jam and you have to replace barrels on every fixed emplacement weapon.

     

    I did spend around 900 hours on BattleField 4, irrespective of all its flaws, I think BattleField 1 is really a chance for them to make a real breakthrough from your average hey we got BattleField moments in this game to hey, this is a really deep, tactical, silly shooter.

     

    And if there is one, serious totally screwed up thing that they still have not managed to fix is the way planes manoeuvre in this game which even F2P titles like War Thunder have managed to polish.

     

    And please do not go with the defend all this by saying, this is the only game doing combined-arms. If that was the case, we should have left BattleField 4 because it was a buggy, riddled piece of sh*t game that would kill you randomly at times.

    On that note, went 34-0 in a little bird the other day, and realized later that I'd just set my personal best for killstreak :D

    They have scopes on LMG's, semi-auto rifles. Yeah! It is a joke of a WW1 title as of now.

     

    Dude, why do you have such high expectations from Battlefield iterations - be it the minimap, or accurate reproduction of weapons of the battle, etc.

     

    fwiw, my expectation from Battlefield is : maps with (large scale) vehicular warfare. If I start judging it by accuracy to history, etc. then it wouldn't be fun playing it. The primary point of playing games is still fun, isn't it?

  9. ^ Should have put attack heptrs on the map but dice did not do that. Instead we get open, featureless desert map where the attack jet and scout f**k anything that moves (plus awful cap locations).

     

    Which reminds me, that map haz no AA... time to get to that choppa!

  10. Update, spotting mechanics have been tweaked, although I would have appreciated if that and the mini-map would be completely removed. Would clean up the UI and as usual make the game more skill rewarding.

     

    Presently, there's hardcore mode for that. As also individual option for server admins to tweak servers to be somewhere in-between normal and hardcore.
