Jigsaw
Swapping it with a 2.5" laptop hdd is darn easy. Just make sure u get a 5400 rpm drive. For backup use an external hdd formatted in FAT32. Remember the external hdd u use for backup should have more free space than the total size of your old ps3 hdd. Backup and restore takes a hell of a lot of time. Also try searching this section of the forums, I have a thread somewhere with the links already. piper
1. It must be a SATA laptop hard disk (2.5"). 2. I doubt 5400rpm is mandatory (won't matter much anyways). 3. You can google for the data backup part. It can be done with a little bit of effort. Do let us all know how it goes, it would be very informative if you can share your experience. I wouldn't recommend a 7200rpm drive because it creates a lot of heat, and is prone to failure.Stick with 5400rpm drive!!
avkash
yeah, i know all that, thanks anyways the thing is with the backup, the Sony help tutorial says specifically that "some data may not be backed-up" which is the deal breaker I think they meant the copy-protected save games (like SF4 and SSF4), but luckily now we have a workaround, upgrade to PSN+ and save the game-save file to cloud, then later on (after swap) just download it again. now i need to upgrade to PSN+, damn
