NatSamp
READ THIS before telling me to hold the power button for 2 beeps Black Screen while using HDMI to DVI on PS3 I have a Samsung 943SWXPLUS monitor with 1 DVI and 1 VGA Slot, I wanted to connect My Ps3 to the same monitor, it supports Resolution upto 1360X768. I bought a DVI to HDMI cable which is perfectly working and I have tested it with my PC(My GPU has a HDMI out, it works perfectly with that) I've tried resetting the Ps3's display settings by letting it beep 2 times, I still get a black Screen. I believe it is HDCP compliant. Not to mention I've tried switching sources from Analog to Digital for the DVI to HDMI cable. I also would like to mention the monitor is sorta glowing not like the switched off black, I mean it's switched on, it's lit up.Please Help me bhaiyo as fast as possible. bneck
Do you have to change the display output settings in your ps3? Is the first time you are connecting via hdmi out? From here The reason you are hitting a wall is simple, you will need an HDMI to HDMI cable to connect your PS3 to an LCD TV or you can also use the componenet cable to conect it to a regular TV/LCD. Once this is done go into the options and change the settings to "HDMI". Disconnect the cable from the TV and reconnect the HDMI/DVI cable from the PS3 to your monitor and you should be good to go. The PS3 does not auto default to HDMI when you power it up for the first time, this has to be done manually. I have my slim connected to a 24" LCD using the same cable that you have (HDMI/DVI). NatSamp
Not the first time, I've connected it to my CRT TV and I tried, it worked there, switched it off to play on monitor because of higher quality on monitor, and then I reset the settings by holding it for 2 beeps, and then tried it on the PC monitor, I got black screen

Ph3N0M
I am pretty sure that monitor's DVI port is not HDCP compliant which is common for non-fulHD monitors.

NatSamp
I am pretty sure that monitor's DVI port is not HDCP compliant which is common for non-fulHD monitors. So, does that mean I can't even play at 720p?
Ph3N0M
So, does that mean I can't even play at 720p? Usually not with a HDMI to DVI cable AFAIK. You may try to get something like a component to VGA converter which should be able to 720p. In fact I had one to play PS2/XBOX on my monitors. Let me know if you are interested in it, and I may sell it. It was something like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA3ZB1CB4775&cm_re=component_to_VGA_converter-_-9SIA3ZB1CB4775-_-Product PS: You'll also need a PS3 component cable to use this though. Ph3N0M
Only two items that I could find on eBay India are: http://www.ebay.in/itm/HDMI-to-VGA-SPDIF-RGB-Component-Ypbpr-Converter-/151298462046?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item233a17515e&_uhb=1 and http://www.ebay.in/itm/Component-Y-Pb-Pr-to-VGA-Converter-Connect-PS2-PS3-XBOX-Wii-PSP3000-to-monitor-/380503208762?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item5897c2333a&_uhb=1 The first one can do HDMI to VGA on a non-HDCP compliant display. Other option is to import. Or I can sell you mine for 2k if you are interested(am visiting Bangalore after next week).
NatSamp
Wait, are you perfectly sure that one of those'll help me play at HD resolutions? I'm sorta getting grinded cuz of my ps3 not working on my monitor
Ph3N0M
They output the resolutions mentioned on their listings. That includes 1280x720, so yes.
NatSamp
I ordered the first one, let's hope it works fine, thanks for your help Ph3N0M. The only reason I didn't buy it from you is that my college will be starting from the next week and I won't be home most of the time. Ph3N0M
I ordered the first one, let's hope it works fine, thanks for your help Ph3N0M. The only reason I didn't buy it from you is that my college will be starting from the next week and I won't be home most of the time. Sorry bro No problem man. The first one should anyway be a better option as you don't need to buy component cable separately to use it.
NatSamp
I haven't received my order yet, so I haven't tested it, but I just remembered HDMI is digital and VGA is analog, so do you deem it will work? I mean does it convert the digital signals to analog signals. I mean would it work if I got a HDMI cable from Sony and connect that to the convertor box and the other end to the Ps3 and then the output of the box from VGA to my monitor, would it work?
Ph3N0M
That's what it is advertising, so it should work that way only(converting digital to analog).

Dani Pedrosa
Buy a new monitor if that cable doesnt work I had a hp w1707 1440x900 monitor. Hdcp capable. Neither ps3 nor xbx 360 worked with it. I had tried simple hdmi to dvi cable as well as hdmi to hdmi cable connected to a hdmi to dvi adaptor. Both of these cables worked with that hp monitor when i used them with the hdmi port of my PC's GPU. Had tested with 480p, 720p and 1080p on my pc using those cables and my monitor was able to display each of them at 50/60hz (except for 1080p @59 and 60hz. Monitor went blank on these settings) But my monitor never displayed anything when connected to a ps3 (or xbox 360). Had tried resetting ps3 by holding power button, Connecting my crt tv via composite and monitor via hdmi to dvi cable and Selecting hdmi as output using my crt TV. Didnt worked.. tv went black, still nothing on the monitor. Finally bought a full hd monitor last year and tested every possible resolution (480p, 720p etc) with my old hp monitor. Did this by setting those resolutions while ps3 was connected to my new full hd monitor. and swapping the dvi out connector port of the cable from new FHD monitor to my old HP monitor. It didnt worked. Tested again with xbox 360. Nothing.. blank screen. So i would say, you sell your current monitor and buy a new full hd display with hdmi port and save yourself from all the headache and disappointment Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk
