  • 2 weeks later...

Playing the 360 version... and I'm loving it.

+ Plays like an RPG, only that it's not an RPG.

+ The game looks beautiful. Art style is very much like Fable/Overlord. Impressive draw distances.

+ Combat is very nice and easy to master. Fatalities are extremely gory and insane!

+ Gameplay is freeform, you can complete objectives in a non-linear fashion.

+ Plenty of side missions and hidden areas/items to find.

+ The large scale battles are very cool. Thousands of NPCs on screen. Very impressive.

- Repetitive. Think Assassin's Creed. Go to a new area, do a laundry list of tasks and prepare for the final assault.

- Quick time button presses are necessary to defeat bosses.

- I don't think it's a very long game. Finished the first island in about 3 hours after exploring everything.

- Cutscenes and voice acting are mediocre. Story is pretty standard.

- The camera sometimes turns violently during combat making it disorienting.

It's a decent game with an addictive combat system but it can get old very quickly. There is also a stealth element but it's only useful during certain times. Apart from the core hack n slash there are elemental powers and throwing weapons to mix things up a bit. Certain areas require some platforming, again it's nothing terribly innovative. Overall, I'm liking it, mainly because I'm a sucker for games like these. This is as close as a hack n slash action game could get to an RPG.

Will post my final comments once I finish it.
