Big Boss
So finally the PS3 can be used to run Linux again? And what about PS3 emulator? ZOMG cant believe Sony was sooo stupid to keep a single Master key. Zeehunter
Good find OP ... I just read the comments of tht site. From that as a layman I understand tht PS3 is hacked permanently . And sony cant do anything to stop it as PS3's Master Key is known
Big Boss
Well its posted by mulitple users on gamefaqs where using words like Beeches etc and censor bypassing like f**king etc results in suspensions and accepting stuff like piracy, using emulators etc results in perma bans, so I don't know
Big Boss
From that as a layman I understand tht PS3 is hacked permanently .And sony cant do anything to stop it as PS3's Master Key is known Yes, it means that unless Sony changes hardware OR changes master key, they cant stop it. And if they do any of it, all previous games wont work and current PS3 owners are screwed. Experts are saying that its really a bad security design choice of keeping a constant master key. Although I dont understand what that means, but that bad security helped PS3 almost non-hackable for 4 years. I hope this doesn't lead to piracy and hacking of Online games, just should be used for constructive purposes like media players, homebrew games etc.
landmarktiger
The few thousand PS3 games that selll here will go down to a few hundred.
Big Boss
^But amount of PS3 buyers will increase a lot, and I hope Sony somehow manages to stop piracy, and then these increased number of buyers will have to buy original games. Zeehunter
The reason this exploit wasnt released for 4 yrs is coz Sony had OtherOS option . When Sony removed the OtherOS option , the homebrew hackers started finding other ways to run the homebrew games . These hackers r claiming tht they can going to run homebrew games only and they dont care abt Piracy. But like always , homebrew hacks leads to piracy . And these type of hack cant be reverted by any firmware update . Good for Sony Fanboys though as PS4 could be released earlier than expected . And even Xbox 3 or 720 ..

Big Boss
^Nope. The PSP hacker didn't hack PSP 3000s and later to the extent where they can play pirated games after firmware 5.03. It still plays homebrew apps, but cant play pirated games. This is what PS3 hackers should do, just dont give ISO loaders and give us homebrew stuff. A PS2 emulator will be a slap on the face of Sony. Big Boss
^Post from a mod means this thread doesn't break rules, Great! All I want is PS2 emulator, ability to use any OS, bunch of media players, cool homebrew games and unhacked online gameplay. Especially installation of any OS might lead to standardization of the feature on future consoles, as installation of XMC on Xbox 1 resulted in PS3 and 360 becoming Media centers. praveer
This is just f**ckin stupid Whoever even thought of that as an idea ? The reason this exploit wasnt released for 4 yrs is coz Sony had OtherOS option .When Sony removed the OtherOS option , the homebrew hackers started finding other ways to run the homebrew games . These hackers r claiming tht they can going to run homebrew games only and they dont care abt Piracy. Had Sony stayed true to their words of not removing LINUX support from phat PS3s in the future (they mentioned this in september 2009) and had they completely revoked the ability to run LINUX on PS3 slim (instead of simply locking it out)...the hackers wouldn't have bothered with it. BUT...OtherOS wouldn't have been removed from phat PS3s had Geohotz not poked his nose around...its fair to say that he was the reason why it was removed from phat PS3 (and the hackers forget to realize that and blame sony for provoking them instead). praveer
They still cannot access low level library...so actual homebrew games (do they even exist ? lol, Its always about piracy) aren't much of a possibility as of now
