No one outside Sony will disagree that PlayStation Home, which launched less than a year ago, has been a disaster. And they may well have begun to accept that, because they’re now working on an enhanced version of its online service for the PS3 and PSP – the PlayStation Network, due for release around spring 2010.
Kaz Hirai, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, has revealed to Fortune that they’re building the new service on the current PSN base, but will mould it according to the needs and capabilities of the different devices. It also sounds like there will be quite a visual overhaul when the new service is launched. “It’s now a matter of what all the services need to look like for each device, and coming out with a rollout plan,” he said.
[singlepic id=1107 w=250 float=left]So far, the only features that have been revealed pertain to seamless connectivity with external devices and easier storage, editing and sharing of various media. But don’t expect all features to be available at launch next Spring, because features will be added to the service bit by bit, much like it has happened with PSN up to now. “It’s like city planning here, and we can start small. We don’t need to build New York City overnight,” said the Ridge Racer enthusiast.

While very little of it actually pertains to gaming, it makes for a great read all the same. And with the cat out of the bag now, hopefully we’ll be hearing a lot more about the enhanced PSN soon enough. And with all this happening, there’s still no sign of a PSN launch in India.
