SchizoidFreud
ENDWAR Published by: Ubisoft Developed by: Ubisoft Shanghai Genre: Strategy Release date: TBA Teaser Website: http://jsf28555833-80604722.com/ (The password for this website is s9p1z6) ____________________________________________________________________________ PLOT Background In the EndWar story, the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan haven't happened. The United States is trying to end strategic nuclear war through an anti-ballistic missle shield with their ally, the European Union; Russia designs her own missle shield independent of the US or EU. As the major economies of the world consume natural resources at an increasing rate, Russia, the owner of most of the oil deposits, benefits from the skyrocketing price of oil and begins to upgrade her military, creating tension with the West. While the US is launching a space station that will house first-response military units, a terrorist attack against the launch pad leaves the superpowers on the brink of war. 2011 Russia Not Included in Missile Shield Treaty The U.S. and European Union (EU) sign the historic SLAMS (Space-Land-Air Missile Shield) Treaty, agreeing to co-develop technologies for a comprehensive, interlocking anti-ballistic missile system. Left out of the treaty, Russia accelerates development of its own system. 2014 The End of Nuclear War SLAMS goes live. The world watches as the U.S. and EU launch test salvos against each other. The results are extraordinary: Each nation's missile shield destroys 100 percent of the dummy missiles fired against it. The U.S. and EU governments pronounce "the end of strategic nuclear war," and the world celebrates a new age of peace and security. 2015 Energy Crisis Like toppling dominos, several major oil companies own up to having "overstated" recoverable oil reserves. For weeks, the price of oil spikes to $200 dollars per barrel, shocking stock markets in New York, London, and Tokyo into a massive downturn. With worldwide energy production slumping, "energy security" becomes the explicit priority of governments around the world. Only Russia, already the world's No.1 supplier of oil and natural gas, benefits from the energy crisis, spending its petrodollars on a revitalized, technologically sophisticated military. Tensions between the world's three superpowers mount. 2018 The Militarization of Space The United States reveals plans to launch the "Freedom Star" space station into high orbit by 2020. While partly designed for civilian research purposes, the station will also house three companies of Marines, who can deploy anywhere on earth within 90 minutes. International reaction is extremely negative, to say the least. 2020 Now With the final module of the Freedom Star set to launch from Kennedy Space Center amid international outcry, it comes as little surprise when a group of terrorists attack the launch site. In investigating the source of the attack, the U.S., Europe, and Russian Federation find themselves at odds, rolling with unstoppable momentum toward full-scale global war. In 2014, the world finally realizes peace. The United States and a unified Europe align to launch the first ever global interlocking anti-ballistic missile system of its kind. 8.2 billion watch as the end of strategic nuclear war is affirmed. Missiles silos are emptied, economies are stabilized. The realization of ideal human coexistence seems to have been attained...but it is not to last. A mere 12 months later news breaks of overstated recoverable oil reserves, the result is an increase in the price of natural resources that quadruples their value and cripples the industrialized world. Amid this planetary energy crisis the Russian Federation experiences a revitalization of wealth, reinvesting its global petrol earnings into technological and military advancement. Over the next three years, the United States and Europe secretly develop plans and countermeasures against a resurgent Russia. Planet Earth, once again, finds itself possessing opposing superpowers. The era that would come to be known as the militarization of space begins, when the US reveals plans to launch its first military space station into permanent orbit. Two years later, with international dissension and opposing military tension mounting, the module launch site falls victim to a terrorist attack. This begins a series of reactions from which mankind may never recover. A conflict of final magnitude. It is highly suggested that the game will serve as a tie-in with the events of the current three Tom Clancy series of Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell. The website makes references to a "Ghost Leader", "Crosscom", "Splinter Cell" and an audio sample of the Splinter Cell night-vision activation sound effect can be heard, all being trademarks of the Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell series. In a GameTrailers Interview with the Lead Designer, it has been said that the Ghost Recon team will be the Special Forces for the US faction, Rainbow Six characters will be promoted and be commanders in the European Union, also there has been something said about a "President Fisher..." (Possibly Sam Fisher, the protagonist of the Splinter Cell series of games) followed by a laugh. The voice over in the trailer could very well confirm this. In an IGN interview De Plater said this about the setting of EndWar: "The setting of EndWar is a global conflagration but this first installment is focused on the North Atlantic Theatre of operations. Players will hear reports of events in other parts of the world - Asia, the Middle East, South America - but the 'theatre of war' in our game concentrates on the North Atlantic region." Gameplay Electronic Gaming Monthly issue 216 contained an interview with the game's lead designer, Michael de Plater. He confirmed the game to be a Real Time Strategy game, however it is not a "Standard" RTS. The emphasis will be more on smaller scale battles between three factions - The United States Joint Strike Force, the European Enforcers Corps, and The Russian Spetsnaz Guard Brigade - rather than the overarching campaign, with the view being from the units' perspective. In that same interview, the number of unit types was revealed to be limited to seven: Riflemen, Engineers, Tanks, Transport, Helicopters (apparently includes tiltrotor aircraft, shown in the trailer), Artillery, and Command Vehicles. Your units will be persistent, meaning that troops which have been with you for many battles will be more effective than fresh recruits. De Plater, lead designer, says this creates a "Pokémon-like" ownership of your units, and will influence tactics greatly. "It's a battalion that you own," says de Plater. "You can personalize it. You can customize it. You can choose its motto and its heraldry. You can change its composition and abilities." De Plater hinted at the game being "streamlined" with regards to units, resource management, etc. He stated that "every time [they] cut features out, it just made the game better." For example, only 12 units are allowed under control at once, creating a "Madden at war" style of battle. Also, the resource system is being stripped down. Each unit costs the same amount of resources, which are gained by completing tactical objectives, such as capturing bases. A prominent feature of the game is the Massively Multiplayer Online Real Time Strategy feature where players choose from the Russians, the European Union, and the United States of America, and engage in combat with players from opposing sides in the North Atlantic theatre - including North America and Europe - contributing to their sides overall successes and changing the shape of the global battle map. In a Game Reactor interview, it was revealed that players will have a personal character, and each day the front lines of the overall war will be reset based on smaller battles that have taken place. De Plater also says that there will be "no magic" in EndWar, meaning all new units must be transported onto the battlefield by a helicopter or other transport. It has also been confirmed that the game will feature voice commands so that you may use a headset to order your troops, although your troops will only react to valid and game-related orders in certain languages. The player will not control individual units, but much larger platoons and companies. The soldiers will behave realistically, and veterans will react based on experience; says Robert Ashley, a writer for EGM, "Squadrons of heavily armed soldiers, when ordered to a cluster of firebombed cars, will automatically take cover in different ways, periodically taking potshots at the enemy through windows and over hoods. If a soldier gets shot, one of his squadmates will drag him back to safety. When the player orders reinforcements, the additional troops deploy from helicopters, rappeling down the ropes like old pros. When ordered to take control of a building, the troops will gather around the entrance and break in Rainbow Six-style-boot through the door and guns blazing. Then they'll take sniper positions in the windows." Additionally, the soldiers will also use stealth and tactics while advancing against enemy positions. ____________________________________________________________________________ For more information and insights, visit Tom Clancy's Wiki
Anmolsc
A True Understanding of War? August 13, 2007 - Welcome to 2020, where the current war never existed and we find ourselves instead engulfed in World War III. United States and the European Union have just signed the Space-Land-Air Missile Shield Treaty. When tested, it shields us against 100% of missiles fired against it. It is, in a sense, perfect. It will end the threat of a nuclear war on all accounts. We've only forgotten one thing. We left Russia out… EndWar is new age and the real-deal. No longer will you play from the "sandbox" (top-down) view. Instead, we see through the unit we've selected via the "commander's-eye view." You now manage a platoon of soldiers and can no longer send out one scout as many other war games allow. There's no magic of any type, and all guns already exist and are in use or prototype. All soldiers operate based on individual A.I.; more experienced soldiers will have different instincts when faced in battle, but all soldiers will have the intelligence to take cover and fire periodically through windows and over hoods. If a soldier is shot, they'll be dragged to safety as they should be. If you call for reinforcements, they'll not come easily. They must be transported to arrive to the scene in real-time. When they arrive, they'll repel from the chopper just like you'd see done in war. A.I. has been based on the real thing; when they take the house, they'll cover the door and each other as they advance through to take their positions. One of the many beauties of EndWar is the voice command system. We're now able to shout our commands at the units and they will respond accordingly. All mysticism has been avoided. Ubisoft aims to make this game as real as possible. You may see advance weapons, but we are assured they exist at least in prototype. This means we won't look like Star Wars firing red, green, and blue lights at one another and we won't have killer zombies or Cyborgs as our strong units. Your strength, however, may still come from space via the Joint Strike Force's (USA) "Rods from God" where we achieve a nuclear blast without lasting effects. As in all war games, each faction has their strengths and weaknesses. USA boasts the Joint Strike Force (JSF), European Union hosts the European Enforcers Corps (EEC), and Russia is home to the Spetsnaz Guard Brigade (SPZ). Each with their own strengths and weaknesses' varied between speed, firepower, technology, size, power, and more. In EndWar, we look forward to the same 'idea' of the old war games with a very new spin on the whole situation. Made to be more believable, Ubisoft has sacrificed nothing to make this game more realistic. In EndWar we are able to view 1000+ characters and vehicles in real-time on your screen all at once. We now can see more of the truth of war and the damage it does all at one time. Still in the early stages, EndWar is already proved to be a fantastic original idea built on grounds of amazing games before it. By Devin Finley CCC Freelance Writer Features: Three factions to fight with including European Enforcers, the U.S. Joint Strike Force, and Russian Spetsnaz. Single and Multiplayer options. Choose from seven types of units, Rifleman, Mechanic, Panzer, Transporter, Helicopter, Artillery, and Commander, to build you perfect twelve unit squad. Personalize your squad how you want. The War at the End of it All We have been enjoying the world that Tom Clancy has created for years now. A world that involves all of the fascinating aspects of a great Bond or War novel blended beautifully inside reality. His writing style is one of the leading reasons that he not only has become a well-versed and received author, but one of the most recognizable names in gaming as well. With recent smash hits and multiplatform mega hits like Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Ghost Recon Advance Warfighters 2 dropping hints about an impending war, it was only a matter of time before news about the EndWar would surface. In the year 2014, the world realizes peace. The United States and Europe have formed a unified alliance to launch the first interlocking, anti-ballistic missile system of its kind. 8.2 billion watch as the end of strategic nuclear war is affirmed. Missile silos are emptied and economies are stabilized. The ideal of human coexistence seems to be finally attained. Not all is meant to last. Only 12 months pass before things start to unravel with the breaking news of overstated oil reserves. This event, of course, raises the cost of natural resources, doubles their values, and cripples the industrial world. Russia, in the midst of this devastating loss, has found new wealth after investing their profits from petrol. Over the next three years, the U.S. and Europe devise plans and countermeasures to halt a resurgent Russia. Once again, the world finds itself with opposing superpowers as well as the beginnings of the militarization of space. The U.S. reveals plans of launching the first military base into orbit. Two years later, with dissension and opposing military tensions mounting, the module launch falls victim to a terrorist attack. The shockwaves are felt throughout the world and events begin to unfold in a series of reactions that the human race may never recover from, and so a conflict of final magnitude begins. Last month, when Ubisoft announced plans to release a completely new chapter into the Tom Clancy universe, everyone began to sweat with the plotline revealed. The premise of the entire world at war, taking place smack dab in the middle of World War III, seems to have warranted a nod on the anticipation level. The interesting thing about it is that you will have the option of being in control of the fight on many levels. There will be three separate factions that you will be able to lead or join - the European Enforcers, the U.S. Joint Strike Force, and the Russian Spetsnaz. Inside each faction you will be able to build your squad to your liking. With the capability of having up to twelve units in each squad, the strategy tactics of the game are shaping up to be quite nice. We will have everything including Riflemen, Mechanics, Panzers, Transporters, Helicopters, Artillery, and Commanders - all intricate parts of a successful squad. We will have the opportunity to assume the role of any of the units in the squad, unless you are the commander. This is where the strategic elements of the game will play a huge part, as well as the online multiplayer aspect of the game. While the amount of details on the game are sketchy at best, we do know that there will be options aside from the massive plans for online gameplay. For instance, there will be a single player options. This mode is where we will find the full exploration of the units. As stated before, there will be seven different types of units to add to your squad. A total of twelve units make up your squad, so you will be able to pick a couple more of your favorite type of units. However, it seems that these units will have a cost. The good news about that is that all of the units will cost the same, so at least we know what to expect. You will also be able to personalize each of your units. Unfortunately, the extent of personalization has not been fully disclosed. EndWar is shaping up to be a nice addition to the military pantheon of video games, even in the very early stages. With Tom Clancy's name branded onto it, we can be sure what to expect. EndWar is set for a 2008 release, and we can assume that in the coming months more details will surface surrounding Tom Clancy's new mega hit game series. As soon as the info springs forth, we will pass it along to you. http://www.cheatcc.com/xbox360/rev/tomclan...arpreview2.html
SchizoidFreud
Pre-GC 2007: The EndWar Begins The year is 2020 and all is not well. A joint project between the United States and the European Federation with peaceful intentions has had the opposite effect. A missile defense system created by the two unions has made nuclear warfare impossible, removing the most terrifying weapon man has created from the table. It should be a day of happiness. But without the threat of nuclear weapons that kept the Cold War from becoming an armed conflict, conventional warfare on a large scale once more becomes possible. And with a growing need to secure the dwindling global oil reserves, war becomes necessary. EndWar begins as this new world conflict is escalating. The nations of Europe have come together to protect their interests, forming a superpower that can rival the United States. Once allies, the United States and European Federation are quickly moving apart as the competition for resources intensifies. Then there's Russia, making a triumphant return to the videogame world. The Cold War foe has renewed its interest in being a mover and shaker on the global front. Through the first six levels of EndWar, you'll see this ramp up to war from each of the three sides. Unlike most games, there won't be a single hero nation; each union has legitimate reasons for fighting and for being fought against. They also have their own unique weapons and strengths. The Joint Strike Force (America!) has equipped their soldiers with the unmanned support vehicles and stealth tech. The Russians focused on a more brute force tactic, loading down the Spetsnaz Guard Brigade with more and bigger guns. Raw power is more important than mobility for the Russians. Last, but not least, the European Enforcers Corps have developed more elegant solutions to war. Energy weapons, non-lethal solutions, and other highly mobile weaponry are their specialty. When full scale war breaks out, you'll be forced to pick which of these three sides you'll support. From there, the story turns non-linear but focuses on the North Atlantic theatre as these three superpowers duke it out for supremacy. And that is only the beginning, which is why IGN is putting together a massive first-look at this unique real-time strategy game. Check IGN on Monday, August 20 for new details, screenshots, and a video interview. Until then, try not to start any world conflicts.

Achieved_Nirvana
EndWar Progress Report May 28, 2008 - Ubisoft Shanghai has a novel idea: Make a real-time strategy game from the ground up to work on a console. Sounds simple enough, but that hasn't stopped developers from trying to cram a game designed for a keyboard and mouse setup onto a controller. I have high hopes for this newest game set in the Tom Clancy world that takes the strategy down to ground level and makes use of voice commands to keep the gears of war turning. We'll find out whether it can live up to those hopes soon -- the game is now content complete and in the bug testing and balancing stages on pace for a fall release. I got a recent look at EndWar at the company's Ubidays event. Unfortunately, the event was quite loud and we didn't get to play more than a couple of matches -- not exactly ideal conditions for playing a strategy game that uses voice commands. While I didn't get a chance to dive into the depth and balancing, we did get a look at the latest build. Instantly noticeable is how much better the game is looking now than it did in the past. As a strategy game with a high number of units on screen and lots of AI simulations being run, it can't visually compete with some of the more straightforward games out there. That said, it's not looking half bad and it's running at a smooth clip. The smoke in the distance and the hot bullets ripping across the screen in the foreground do a great job of making you feel like you're right in the midst of a huge war. I got a look at two maps, Paris and Copenhagen, in quick conquest battles. The goal here is to take control of a series of bunkers that serve as satellite uplinks. It's easier said than done. Bunkers can be captured by infantry and then upgraded for defensive purposes, making them hotspots for major confrontations. It begins with the three units, pre-picked by you at the opening menu. By taking down enemies and grabbing bunkers, you can win points for reinforcements and extra units. All told, you can control up to 12 units, which are comprised of several soldiers or vehicles each. There's a standard rock, paper, scissors balance to the units: Tanks are vulnerable to helicopters. Helicopters are, in turn, vulnerable to anti-air vehicles which are of course weak to the heavy tanks. Though I'm still hoping for an extended play session, I did begin to notice a few subtleties to the gameplay. Little things like trees can play a big role in how you choose to strategize. Infantry units move much faster when sitting inside a transport, not to mention they're better protected. Heavily forested areas, though, can be navigated by foot while vehicles have to drive around. These forests also create open spaces for helicopters to fly across on the way to surprise air attacks. It's a small thing, but hopefully a sign of more to come when we get an extended look at the game. From IGN.

MarketTantrik
PS3 EndWar is 360 port By Wesley Yin-Poole - 03/06/2008 - 5:26pm GMT From: http://www.videogamer.com/news/03-06-2008-8439.html ____________________________________________________________ 90-strong PS3 port team 'doing really well now' despite experiencing 'a little trouble' at beginning. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of upcoming console-only RTS Tom Clancy's EndWar will be "identical" when the game launches this October or November, despite the PS3 port team experiencing "a little trouble at the beginning" of the game's development. EndWar, a near future strategy game which can be played completely through voice command only, is due out on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 simultaneously this October or November. Despite the fact that the lead version is on the Xbox 360 and that the development team found the Unreal Engine 3 "a great fit" with Microsoft's console, Julian Gerighty, editorial content director at Ubisoft Shanghai revealed to VideoGamer.com at Ubidays last week that the dedicated 80 or 90 strong PS3 team "is doing really well now" with the port. Gerighty said: "Because we have to have feature parity there's no difference in features. The way we've developed it was with Unreal 3 and we found it a really great fit with Xbox 360. PS3 team had a little trouble at the beginning but they're doing really well now. The lead version is the 360. They'll be identical when they finally launch." He added: "There's a whole separate team of another 80, 90 guys working on it. It's really decent. And all they have to do is port it. It's a big team." ____________________________________________________________
MarketTantrik
EndWar dev: PS3 360 cross platform is 'impossible' Because Sony and MS 'don't like speaking to each other'. By Wesley Yin-Poole - 03/06/2008 - 6:16pm GMT From: http://www.videogamer.com/news/03-06-2008-8451.html ___________________________________________________________ Ubisoft "wished" it could allow PS3 and Xbox 360 owners to play upcoming voice-command strategy game Tom Clancy's EndWar against each other but decided it was "impossible" because Sony and Microsoft "don't like speaking to each other", Julian Gerighty, editorial content director at Ubisoft Shanghai told VideoGamer.com at Ubidays last week. EndWar, which is set for release on Xbox 360 and PS3 simultaneously this October or November, is a console-only strategy game which can be played entirely through voice command. Set in the near future, players pick from the Americans, Europeans and Russians and attempt to dominate the world in WW3. Gerighty's comments come as no surprise - we've never seen a video game that has allowed owners of Sony and Microsoft consoles to play against each other, and are never likely to either. "I wish we could play cross-platform," he told VideoGamer.com. "That would be nice. It's impossible. Sony and Microsoft don't like speaking to each other." We can't even begin to imagine the trash talking that would have been heard online had Gerighty's wish come true! ________________________________________________________________
Achieved_Nirvana
Factions in Tom Clancy's EndWar UNITED STATES OF AMERICA: JOINT STRIKE FORCE Once strong allies with Europe, the U.S. has broken ranks following the dissolution of NATO and the formation of the European Federation. The two superpowers are now locked in a costly and controversial military space race. This rivalry builds to a crescendo when the U.S. prepares to launch the Freedom Star, a huge military space station that Europe suspects could be used to neutralize its missile shield satellites. RUSSIA: SPETSNAZ The world's number one supplier of oil and natural gas since the 2016 nuclear war in the Middle East, Russia has experienced an economic boom of epic proportions. It has used its newfound riches to build up its military to levels beyond the Cold War and is once again a true superpower in the world arena. EUROPEAN FEDERATION: ENFORCER CORPS The European Federation is a new superpower, founded in 2018 to consolidate political and economic power in the face of the world energy crisis and accelerating security and environmental concerns around the globe. Though publicized as an evolution of the European Union, demanding admission criteria disenfranchised all but the wealthiest nations of Europe. The UK and Ireland declined membership (instead joining the New Commonwealth), as did Switzerland (fiercely neutral as always). --------- From The Official Website This game is gonna be so cool.
