Classic side-scrolling gameplay is reporting back for duty with Bionic Commando Rearmed, a remake of the classic NES game. 20 years after the 8-bit classic was released, Bionic Commando Rearmed recreates the world of the original with a complete "2.5D" visual revamp. Bionic Commando Rearmed preserves the original's mix of swinging and shooting in an intense 2D side-scroller, all to the tune of a brand-new soundtrack based on the classic 8-bit music from the NES masterpiece.

But Rearmed is far more than just a remake - it features all-new modes such as the 2-player co-op play, smarter enemy AI, new bionic arm abilities, new weapons, bigger bosses and online rankings. Faithfully sticking to the original story, Bionic Commando Rearmed tells the story of Nathan "R.A.D." Spencer's first mission, sent in to retrieve captured agent Super Joe from the hands of the Imperials. Fans of the original story can expect to see all the characters from the NES version, as well as the memorable moments that made the title so popular with fans.

IGN Review - 9.4

Bionic Commando Rearmed sets a new benchmark for downloadable console games. The best elements of the original are back, but have been upgraded to be better than before. The new bosses add a more interesting challenge and the final level is one for the ages. And, of course, the visuals are brilliant. The remastered soundtrack is fantastic as well. From top to bottom, Bionic Commando Rearmed is an incredible game that's well worth owning.

Capcom Promises Extra Content for Bionic Commando: Rearmed PC

Patch with challenge levels said to be incoming.

Capcom's Ben Judd has promised a free patch will be coming for the PC version of Bionic Commando: Rearmed, hoping to calm concerns over the $5 increase from its console counterparts. The company's business development and strategic planning vice president, Christian Svensson, recently commented on the various reasons behind the price difference, citing traditional PC pricing and distribution partners, but it seemed to do little to quell the concern from the community.

As if in response to Svensson, the Bionic Commando Newswire looked to the game's producer, Ben Judd. "I can give you a song and dance about PC digital content being more expensive as a general rule...but nobody wants to hear that crap," he said. "I can say this: for the PC version we are planning on uploading some additional PC-only challenge rooms via a free patch so you will get more bang for your buck."

It's hard to say whether this additional PC content was always planned. Without knowing a timeline for the free patch, it could be a response to the negative reaction to the PC pricing. But console gamers may feel shortchanged by receiving less content, making us wonder if the patch will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions as well -- for a price.

^Friday morning, like all other PSN updates.

Btw, download the demo meanwhile, its fking hilarious. The dialog between player, his HQ guy and enemies are brilliantly corny. For eg. here's the first conversation when you contact HQ

Soldier: Why are you slacking about with the puny Bionic Commando Rearmed demo, when the FULL game is much better?! What are you, a fool?

Nathan (you): Stow it, agent. I want to try things out properly. Let's not jump the gun about the full game just yet, OK?

Soldier: You can't jump at all, and that's why you need motivation from a guy like me! So stop yapping and go shop!

And when you finally reach the demo boss....won't spoil it, you gotta hear it yourself. And yes, you can't jump, there's no jump button, you can only swing from one platform to another and use the momentum to cross over pits.
