FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: THE WAR OF THE LIONS is a portable update to 1997’s turn-based strategy game FINAL FANTASY TACTICS – an undisputed classic that gave birth to the world of Ivalice. FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: THE WAR OF THE LIONS features PSP system exclusive content such as stunning CG sequences, powerful jobs, a widescreen presentation, head-to-head multiplayer, new storyline elements, and an all-new English translation. FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: THE WAR OF THE LIONS will be released simultaneously in North American and European territories.

Story

Final Fantasy Tactics begins with Ivalice just recovering from the Fifty Year War against Ordalia, and the power vacuum caused by the death of its ruler soon after, King Omdoria, erupted another conflict. Princess Ovelia and the younger Prince Orinas are both candidates to the throne, with the former supported by Prince Goltana of the Black Lion, and the latter by Queen Ruvelia and her brother, Prince Larg of the White Lion. This erupted into a full scale war known as the Lion War, with either side using whatever means possible to secure their place in the throne, this included bearing an illegitimate child, killing other possible heirs, betrayal, assassination and false identities.

Setting

The story takes place in the kingdom of Ivalice, which also features as the setting for Final Fantasy XII. It is a country where castles and forts are the stronghold of nobles, the church is a powerful religio-political entity, and warring factions remain in the struggle for dominance over the land. The story is told by Alazlam J. Durai - he attempts to piece together the truth of what happened during the Lion War.

Characters

The main character's name by default is Ramza Beoulve, the third-youngest of four siblings who is conscious about his surroundings and remains firm in his quest to seek the truth behind the war. He is joined by a cadre of characters which include Delita Hyral, his closest friend who cares deeply for his sister Teta; and Agrias Oaks, the knight in charge of protecting Princess Ovelia, candidate heir to the throne of Ivalice. Alongside Ramza are more than a dozen characters that are recruited to join his quest.

There are also many non-playable characters that join in the fray, each playing a role in the many factions' elaborate plots to control Ivalice. The most prominent factions at the beginning of the story are that of Prince Goltana and Prince Larg, of which both seek to obtain control of the throne by being guardians of the young heirs. The story then progresses to include characters from the Glabados Church that is engineering the war in question.

The PSP remake of Final Fantasy Tactics will also include new characters - Balthier (FFXII) & Luso

IGN gives Final Fantasy Tactics: The War Of The Lions 9/10

9.0: Presentation

The exploration of Ivalice is beautifully handled thanks to the extra content and cutscenes to bring you into the story.

8.5: Graphics

The classic 2D sprites are supported by incredible cutscenes and improved animations, although they suffer from frequent slowdown.

8.5: Sound

Voice acting is great, and sound effects are nice as well, although the synched delay interferes with the experience.

9.0: Gameplay

New missions, new multiplayer modes and new job classes improve this title significantly. Too bad slowdown returns and multiplayer isn't fully balanced.

9.5: Lasting Appeal

War of the Lions is one of the most deep titles around, and with the additional content added, you'll have tons of replayability with this game.

9.0 Outstanding OVERALL
