Official UEFA Euro 2012 game announced

The official UEFA Euro 2012 video game has been announced for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and 3DS. To everyone’s astonishment, however, the game is not being developed by EA Sports, and neither is it being handled by Konami, who hold the licenses to UEFA’s club competitions.

Publishing duties have now been taken over by Warner Bros, who have entrusted Double Helix Games with the game’s development. The studio is best known for games like Silent Hill: Homecoming and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. This will be the first UEFA Euro game not to be published by EA since 1996.

Also raising a few eye-brows is the fact that the game will run on Crytek’s CryEngine 3, made famous by Crysis 2. This will be the first sports simulation game to make use of CryEngine 3. Not much information has been revealed about the game except that it’ll feature single player and multiplayer modes.

A release date for the game is yet to be announced, but with the tournament set to get underway in early June, we expect the game to arrive latest by mid-May.
