EA cancels Black Panther game

Developer Cliffhanger Games also being shuttered

EA has cancelled its Black Panther game, EA Entertainment president Laura Miele said in an email sent to staff that was accessed by IGN.

With the cancellation, EA will also be closing the game’s developer Cliffhanger Games and laying off its staff. Miele said the decision was taken to “sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities,” as reported by IGN.

Recently, EA also reportedly cancelled a game in the Titanfall universe being developed at Respawn, and laid off around 300 employees across Respawn and the rest of EA.

EA announced the single-player Black Panther game in 2023, which was to be the debut game for Cliffhanger Games. The studio was headed by Kevin Stephens, who was previously the head of Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor developer Monolith Productions. The game was reportedly set to feature an evolved version of the Nemesis system made famous by Monolith’s Middle Earth games.
