Microsoft’s Xbox handheld is the new Asus Ally

As close to an Xbox handheld as we’re going to get

Microsoft has unveiled the Xbox ROG Ally, a gaming handheld that is has co-developed with Asus. The company also unveiled the Xbox ROG Ally X, a more powerful version of the handheld.

Powered by Widows 11, both handhelds feature the Xbox button to pull-up Xbox features like chat and settings. The device has also been designed with grips to feel ergonomically similar to the popular Xbox controller.

The Xbox ROG Ally devices will be able to download and play games from the device, from the cloud in regions where Xbox Cloud is available (India isn’t), as well as with remote play via Xbox devices.

The handheld will also allow players to aggregate their game libraries from several marketplaces, including Xbox, Steam and GOG.

The Xbox ROG Ally is powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor with 16GB RAM and 512GB of SSD storage, while the more powerful Xbox ROG Ally X runs on the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor with 24GB RAM and 1TB storage.

Both variants will feature a 7-inch 1080p IPS display with a120Hz refresh rate and FreeSync Premium compatibility.

While pricing is yet to be announced, both devices are set to launch this “holiday” in select markets.
