It may actually not be that far. Looking at the developments, very likely Microsoft will enable third party consoles while keeping XBox as their premium showcase offering similar to surface laptop. Enables them to focus more on higher margin games/software at scale (along with harvesting super precious user data from millions of users). In the current age I think gamer's data/preference/patterns etc is much more valuable than tiny profits from gaming division for Microsoft. My 2 cents only

I for one will be happy to see higher sales of COD on PS/PC to subsidize it for us XBOX Game pass players

Since we are speculating anways, may be they will announce partnership with Nintendo to enable Mario on XBox along with XBox handheld device

+1. As a casual gamer I prefer XBox over a PC. Easier to fit in with existing room setup than a PC. PC is too complicated a machine for occasional gaming for my usecase.

I hope everyone in this thread is on the same page despite their differences that gamers need both companies to survive and thrive in order to get best possible games and gaming experience. A monopoly is gonna eventually kill the creativity. May be Sony continue building their single player campaigns and fighters etc and license to Xbox. Microsoft enables multiplayers gamepass on PS5 and crossplay. Everyone makes money and everyone is happy. Nintendo I feel is in a different league altogether so they continue what they do...
