They answer to the same boss as the Creatives do and get their salary from the same source. NDAs applies to them the same. Heck, most of the time, they themselves decide the NDAs, along with help from Creatives and maybe even the top (With Legal to enforce it) Not exactly. Most of the time, studios need publishers to partially fund and market their projects. And if the publisher is too big in comparison, they will probably have near complete deciding power when it comes to things like marketing. And if they decide to get spoilery with the promos, the creatives might not be able to do much to stop it. Also, I don't know how you cannot see the absurdity of the notion that marketing guys sign NDAs which prevent them from putting spoilers in the ads. That goes completely against what their job requires. Yes, they do sign NDAs but that's to prevent them from leaking stuff to the public and the press, not to stop them from spoiling the games in the promos. Creatives can give them guidelines but the effectiveness of that depends on the dynamics between the studios and the publishers. Not everyone is lucky like Sony's first party studios. There was no dispute period (TLOU2 Case). The company as a whole decided it was spoiler and decided to hide it. Marketing were the ones who released the fake trailer in case you forgot. I already said that they were the exceptions in my previous comment. Majority of the studios aren't in the same position as them. That is your problem. Don't try to enforce your opinion on others. It's "Your Rule of Thumb". In general, it's not. What's displayed officially is fair game always. This coming from the guy who thought it was okay to reveal a big spoiler in TLOU2 before this discussion. Surprised that you of all people don't find it to be a good rule.
