Abhinav Tejan has been crowned Indian champion of the Mortal Kombat X Cup, earning him entry into the world finals in Paris.
The India qualifier for the Mortal Kombat X Cup took place at Mumbai’s Oberoi Mall over the weekend, and saw hundreds of entries from all over the country.
Sixty-four participants were selected on Day 1 based on draws and knock outs, out of which 32 qualified for the final day on Sunday.
Delhi’s Abhinav Tejan, playing as series newcomer Kung Jin, defeated Shiva R from Chennai, who was playing as Ermac, in the final. Avinash Sharma from Gwalior was the second runner-up.
Tejan walked away with a Mortal Kombat X Championship Belt, a cash price of Rs 20,000, as well as a gaming monitor from BenQ. He will now have the chance to participate at the Warner Bros. Final to be held in Paris on 4th and 5th of July.
“I feel very lucky that I got a chance to be here at this tournament. E-sports has catapulted to the level of mainstream sports and I hope more and more events like these will be held for gamers like us,” said an overjoyed Tejan, adding, “I am now going to practice more and come back winning from Paris.”
