We might be able see to the next Xbox’s launch by the end of 2012, according to an Edge report. According to the magazine’s unnamed sources, Ubisoft Montreal has already started work on ‘target boxes’ based on the intended specifications of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 successor. In their current state, they’re reported to simply be PCs containing off-the-shelf components provided by Microsoft. The report also claims that several other major developers, including certain EA studios, are also in possession of the target boxes. While no details have been revealed about the specifications of the console, the report suggests that AMD is providing the GPU for the console.
The same report also claims that one of the major Sony-owned studios has now ceased PS3 software development and has shifted its focus towards PS4 development. With Nintendo’s WiiU launch coming up, it’ll be exciting to see how Microsoft and Sony play their cards, as neither would want to be late to the next generation console market.
