Sony considering Paypal support for PSN

Xbox Live may have got Paypal support recently with the new spring dashboard update, but it seems Sony isn’t too far behind, going by recent comments from Nick Caplin, head of communications, SCEE at the Playstation Blog.

Caplin mentioned that Sony is indeed looking at alternate payment options to bolster the PSN after the recent intrusions, and to us, Paypal support seems like a no brainer.

We’re looking at many options for the future, so it’s certainly possible.

Now, this may seem like a generic reply, but considering what the PSN members and Sony have been through recently, it won’t be surprising if Sony announced Paypal support with the rumoured PS3 firmware update 3.70.

Plenty of Indians use Paypal already, and with the unavailability of prepaid PSN cards here as well as users’ understandable reluctance towards using credit cards on the PSN, this might be the perfect move by Sony. It doesn’t seem like the credit card attachment to PSN account ratio is that high in India, especially considering the fact that India only recently got the PSN Store. Adding Paypal support will also encourage more spending online, and it’s a win-win situation for both parties.
