SchizoidFreud
The latest issue of Finnish video games magazine Pelaaja has revealed the next installment in the Splinter Cell series. Conviction will be developed by Ubisoft Montreal and it will be released exclusively on PC and Xbox 360. This is the first time that Ubisoft uses the name after it filed, and had approved, two trademarks for "Splinter Cell: Conviction." Speculation leads to rumors that NSA Director Williams will be the enemy in this fifth installment. At the beginning of the game, Sam learns that Anna Grimsdottir is in danger, this is why Sam decides to join Third Echelon to give them a hand once again. However,Third Echelon is not anymore what it once was and Sam receives at the beginning a series of bad intel and poor equipment while the new officers in charge quarrel about the procedures of the mission. When Sam discovers that the threat of Anna comes from Third Echelon itself, he decides to leave it behind and become a fugitive of the law. GAMEPLAY It has been reported that Splinter Cell: Conviction will be set almost entirely in open urban areas, with Sam Fisher using other environmental elements, such as crowds for cover. It has also been said that Sam can use the environment for defense (i.e. using benches to block off doors). It will be possible to interact with nearly every object in the environment (i.e. chairs, printers, pieces of paper, etc.). Sam will apparently have more close combat abilities as well, including throws, kicks, and punches. According to Ubisoft sources, Splinter Cell: Conviction will include cross-platform play between Windows Vista and the Xbox 360. This is possible with Games for Windows Live and Xbox Live. Ubisoft Montreal took eight months alone to make the gameplay as lifelike as possible by making almost every object usable. Part of the reason for this was to abandon prescribed movements in interactions. Instead, Sam will be able to pick up an object from any angle and stance in realistic motions. Objects are also simulated with realistic physics and will interact with other objects in the environment (for example, a chair thrown over a desk will hit the objects on the desk, knocking them over). Another added feature is the crowd mechanic (similar to the social stealth of Assassin's Creed, also developed by Ubisoft) and said to be a new mobile stealth device, as Sam no longer works for the government and consequently has limited supplies. Sam must use his immediate environment instead of specialized equipment. The crowds react to each other and to Sam's actions. Individuals may interfere with Sam if they see that he is armed or otherwise is executing some form of suspicious activity. They may follow you, attack you, or call for help. According to IGN, the game will be split across 15 episodes with an estimated game time of one hour per episode. The first episodes will bridge the gap between Double Agent and Conviction. Sam may no longer have his signature equipment, such as the tri-focal goggles, wetsuit and SC-20k rifle, but he seems to have additional skills to compensate. For example Sam now possesses sixth sense which has been termed as the Heroes Instinct or Focus Vision. Upon activation the screen is hued grey, and any police or agents after the player will stand out even if they are obstructed from Sam's physical view. Also, Sam will have a MP5 submachine gun concealed under his hoodie as his weapon. However, using it will obviously blow his cover, resulting in a poor performance. He may also use his new freedom to grab objects to take firearms and armor off of disabled guards, as seen in the promotional trailer. SOUNDTRACK On July 16 2007, it was announced that music house Groove Addicts would be composing the musical score to Conviction, their first score for a videogame. SCREENSHOTS: P.S. Once again, thanks for getting the post up Umang. --- MT
MarketTantrik
Doh! Splinter Cell Conviction gets delayed From Xbox 360 Fanboy _________________________________________________________________________ Yesterday, as part of Ubisoft's end of the quarter fiscal talk with their investors, they revealed that the 360 exclusive Splinter Cell Conviction is taking longer than expected to develop and has been delayed. Originally, Conviction was planned for release sometime between January and March 2008, but Ubisoft made it clear that the game wouldn't release in that time frame and is now targeted for sometime on or after April 2008. And we know, being the kind heart you are, that your instant reaction to the Conviction delay is to worry about Ubisoft's financials. But don't, because Ubisoft already planned for the delay and their earnings outlook is in check. _________________________________________________________________________

Sunson
The graphics look good. Especially the close-up first pic in this thread. Is that piece rendered from the in-game engine? If yes, I must say it looks awesome and detailed! Reminds me of CryEngine

Tyler
To be honest, I didn't get what the f**k was going on in the first three games as far as storyline goes. Gameplay was good enough to make the game worth playing. The fourth one had a much better plot but the PC version was a total mess!

jackhammer06
Rumor: Splinter Cell Conviction Going "Back to the Drawing Board" Metal Gear Solid 4? Big deal, right? Look at the Xbox 360 line-up for 2008; it contains titles like Ninja Gaiden 2, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Gears of War 2, and Splinter Cell Conviction. Oh, wait, one of those titles won't be hitting this year after all. It appears that 360 owners won't be enjoying an espionage experience this year with Splinter Cell Conviction because the title is being taken "back to the drawing board" by Ubisoft Montreal. Well, this is according to a report in the latest issue of Xbox World 360 magazine anyways. As of now, Ubisoft hasn't officially released word on the state of the latest installment of the Splinter Cell title; however, the magazine is saying that it heard the title will now be ready for holiday season 2009- or as late as Spring 2010. Splinter Cell Conviction has been development for a number of years, and was supposed to be the Metal Gear killer for Microsoft. According to XBW 360, it's probable that Conviction has simply become outdated by more recent Ubisoft titles- namely Assassin's Creed. Luckily, Ubisoft's UbiDays event is due to take place in Paris next week, so we can hope for some concrete details surrounding this missing gem. Until then, get jealous of PS3 owners and Metal Gear Solid 4, because you're in for a long wait. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ LINK
