Harsahil
Genre: Historic First-Person Shooter Release Date: 26th of August 2008 Hell's Highway beta near, release delayed to early '08 [uPDATE] Gearbox confirms incoming beta test of multiplatform shooter, but Ubisoft has pushed the game back to the first quarter of next year. By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot Posted Sep 21, 2007 1:36 pm PT With the Halo 3 hype, Wii frenzy, and PS3 announcements dominating the headlines, many lower-profile games are being overshadowed in the public eye. One such game is Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway, the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 World War II shooter from Gearbox Software and Ubisoft. Thought it was expected to hit retail before the year's end, it now seems Hell's Highway could be taking a detour to an early 2008 release. When asked if the game was still on schedule to ship for the holidays, a Gearbox rep said that nothing is currently set in stone. "Gearbox has yet to announce any release date," cautioned the rep. "There has been a good deal of speculation about the date, but we'll send out a news item when there's a real one. ... [Gearbox CEO] Randy [Pitchford] has recently stated that a release date will be coming very soon." [uPDATE]: Shortly after press time, Ubisoft circulated an updated release calendar confirming that Hell's Highway would indeed miss its previously announced holiday 2007 launch window. The game will now ship in Ubisoft's fiscal fourth quarter, which runs from January to March. Despite the delay, fans of the series won't be entirely at a loss this year; a Wii version of Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 is set for a December release. The delay will frustrate fans eager to play the game, but one piece of news that will be universally welcomed is that work on the game--which drew praise for its detailed graphics and intense gameplay at the 2007 E3 Media & Business Summit--is nearing a crucial phase. "We're rapidly approaching Beta status on Hell's Highway," promised the rep, raising the prospect of a Call-of-Duty-4-style test before year's end. ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________ whoa gonna be an awesome title coz it is a FPS in which cover system like Gears of War is available. also check out this Video.... awesome!!!!!!!!!!! Harsahil
well according to me this game is pretty different from others in FPS genre. it has got a cover system and at the moment when u r taking cover the perspective changes to third person which is a neat trick. moreover u r in command of ur squadron and give them orders to shoot at enemies or make strategies. that's really very cool. and the graphics are top notch too. the locations really look authentic
Tyler
I liked the way you could suppress enemies with fire and then flank them to finish them off. It was the first WW2 game I really really liked on the PC.
ctrl_alt_del
BiA really matured up in it's second outing. "Earned In Blood" turned out to be so much more intelligent and challenging then what the original game was. No more clinically suppressing and then finishing off the enemy. They were actually trying to out-flank you in EiB. Though the SecuRom protection system and the hilarious bypass of it was something that I wasn't expecting out of the game. I wonder what the "Brotherhood Moments" (is that what's it called?) look like in the game. The last time I checked out was when the very early teaser- trailers for the game came out. It seems like the game has incorporated quite a lot of new gameplay elements that I had was not aware of. With CoD vacating the WWII throne (permanently?), I think BiA will move in for the kill. SchizoidFreud
Brothers in Arms: Hell's control scheme I spent only 10 minutes with Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway at E3, hardly enough time to fully evaluate the game, but that doesn’t stop me from passing judgment on its hellacious, horrible, broken, annoying, impossible, and out-of-place control scheme for the PS3. Excruciating details, post-jump. Imagine if someone took the controls for Call of Duty 4 and Command & Conquer, put them in a blender, and then randomly assigned every function to an arbitrary button. That’s kind of how it felt to play this game. While I have long admired the feel of the PS3 controller, this game left my hands aching. There wasn’t anything about the controls that felt intuitive. Because BIA:HH concentrates heavily on squad interaction, there are several functions present in the control scheme, not found in other games. In addition to trying to wage normal FPS combat, you’re also responsible for the actions and movements of up to 2 squads of troops, who you direct using a combination of crosshairs, direction pad, and contextual commands. There is a serious shortage of real estate on the controller to get this all done. I’ve played several FPS games where you were to direct your squad, most recently Rainbow Six Vegas 2, but in that game you’re only responsible for one entity, meaning your squad. You tell them where to go and THEN what to do once they arrive. In Brothers in Arms you must watch the lower right corner to ensure you’re talking to the right squad and that they are in the right “mode.” This involves, at times using the direction pad, moving the crosshairs to a location, and squeezing a trigger button, all while being shot at and trying to return fire. The result, for me, was a lot of grenades being mistakenly chucked at hostile dirt, and a lot of frustration. The guy who was showing the game actually asked me if I wanted him to play so I could watch. I felt pitiful and inept. At least I did until I walked by a few minutes later and overheard the exact same exchange with another attendee who was struggling to grasp the controls. I’m sure it grows on you, but there’s obviously a control approachability problem here. If people demo this game out of the PSN and can’t figure out the controls in a couple of minutes, I can’t see them PAYING for that kind of torture when the time comes to make a purchase. ctrl_alt_del
The previous two BIA games handled pretty well on the Xbox I believe. Plus the control system doesn't seems to have changed that much so it just *might* not run the risk of breaking the gameplay. How did the previous BIA games fare on the PS2? Keyofx
^^ Just fine. I don't see what all the fuss is about if they're just using the same control scheme as the older games.
