FURTHER INFO :

Guitar Hero III will be the third official installment in the Guitar Hero video game series. In May, 2006 RedOctane, the publisher of Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II was purchased by Activision. Because of this purchase, Guitar Hero III will be published by Activision and development responsibilities will shift from Harmonix Music Systems to Neversoft Entertainment.

Like its two predecessors, the game will utilize a guitar controller to play songs. Activision has stated that the game is planned for release in the fiscal year of 2008, which stretches from March 2007 to March 2008.

Activision CEO Robert Kotick said that Guitar Hero "would be arriving on every significant new platform."

On April 9, 2007, guitar controller manufacturer RedOctane, who partnered with Harmonix to produce the first two Guitar Hero games, unofficially stated on a support webpage concerning Guitar Hero II's release date that "Guitar Hero 3 for the Playstation 2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii are currently scheduled for release in the United States in Fall of 2007".

On April 16, 2007, RedOctane founder Kai Huang confirmed the release platforms for Guitar Hero III, as well as a Nintendo DS version of the game, to be released early 2008. Additionally, Huang revealed that all versions of the game will feature wireless controllers as well as online multiplayer and downloadable content.

GAMEPLAY

IGN announced the game would feature a new multiplayer game mode called Battle Mode.[21] The mode puts a twist on the Pro Face-off mode introduced in Guitar Hero II. Two players will face each other, trying to complete a song while successfully playing Star Power sequences to earn attacks that can be used against their opponents. Players will be able to store three attacks at a time and can activate them by tilting their guitars upward. If neither player fails the song, they will face each other in a sudden death segment. The attacks will include:

* Broken string: One fret button on the opponent's guitar will not work until it is fixed (by rapidly tapping the button).

* Difficulty up: The opponent will play the song on an increased difficulty for a short duration of time (except for expert difficulty).

* Amp overload: The fret board will shake and appear blurry, making the scrolling notes difficult to read.

* Whammy bar: The opponent will have to use the whammy bar before he/she can play notes again.

* Steal power: This will steal your opponent's power-up (this will be lost if used when the opponent has no power-up).

* Double notes: The opponent will have to play any single note as a two-button chord, and any two-button chord as a three-button chord for a short amount of time.

* Lefty flip: The fret board will be mirrored, requiring the player to switch their handedness on the guitar.

SOUNDTRACK :

Activision announced 11 songs that will appear in the game. IGN revealed two more tracks on May 31.[11] A trailer for the game revealed two more tracks on July 9.[26] Users from the ScoreHero forum reported 4 additional songs on July 25, 2007.[25] The list includes both cover songs (indicated by the phrase "as made famous by") and master tracks, featuring performances by the song's original artist.[16] The Living Colour track, "Cult of Personality" was rerecorded (with a new guitar solo) by the band after the master track could not be located. According to IGN.com, this new guitar solo makes the song on expert "just plain ridiculous."[27]

Lead developer Alan Flores states in a GameSpot interview that there will be "over 70 songs", (over half of them master recordings) on the final soundtrack for the game.[22]

As of August 14, 2007, there have been 31 songs confirmed:

In addition, bands confirmed to be contributing to the game include:

* Another song by Velvet Revolver from Libertad

* An original song composed and performed by Slash of Velvet Revolver

Concerning other bands, Huang also stated in an interview, "We've got a lot of songs and artists still that we would love to have. In particular, we've been trying to get Metallica, AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. So hopefully sometime in the near future, my wish and everybody's wish will come true and we can get some of their music in the game."

Bret Michaels to rock Guitar Hero III

The Poison frontman is the second star to be announced for the latest version of the popular rhythm-based game series.

Hardcore guitarist Slash from Guns N' Roses was recently unveiled as appearing as a boss in the upcoming Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Now, Poison's frontman Bret Michaels has also been confirmed as having a part in the game.

The rocker has been motion-captured with full body, facial, and clothing scans. Two of Michaels' songs will feature on the Guitar Hero III track list, a remastering of the Poison track "Talk Dirty To Me," and a master track from the Bret Michaels Band called "Go That Far."

Michaels is the lead vocalist for the glam metal band Poison, whose hits include "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Nothin' But a Good Time." He is also the star of reality TV show Rock of Love with Bret Michaels on VH1, in which the rock star has to select a lady friend from a group of 25 competitors.

Previously announced Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock original songs include the Smashing Pumpkins' "Cherub Rock," the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black," and Muse's "Knights of Cydonia."

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock will be coming to the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360 in October.

From: http://www.primotechnology.com/2007/09/23/...uitar-hero-iii/

___________________________________________________________

Speculation on the state of wireless guitar controllers for the upcoming release of Guitar Hero III has been in flux until today; RedOctane announced that all bundles of the game with controller for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii will include wireless controllers. This was further confirmed by the release of the game’s box art, shown below. Note the ‘New Wireless Guitar’ label on the front of each box.

The game bundle will retail for $99.99 for the PS3 and 360 version, and $89.99 for the PS2 and Wii versions.

Those that already have their PS2 or 360 Guitar Hero II controllers will still be able to use these in Guitar Hero III. These wired controllers can also be purchased separately for $39.99 or $59.99, respectively. The game alone will cost $49.99 and $59.99, respectively, making the wireless bundles a much better detail for the first-time Guitar Hero buyer.

PC and Mac users can expect to have access to wired USB-enabled guitars for the Guitar Hero III release to these platforms.

The game is expected for release next month.

Why Rock Band may lose to Guitar Hero

First off, Guitar Hero is a name that people know, not Harmonix. Yes, those of us that follow every tidbit of gaming news known to man know that the original Guitar Hero developers are behind Rock Band. But what about those people that have a PS2 for no reason other than to play Guitar Hero? They will walk into the store and see what would appear to be a Guitar Hero knock-off. They will likely want to stick to the brand name that they know and love.

Secondly, Rock Band is going to be f**king expensive. Until February you will only be able to buy the $160 - $170 bundle for Rock Band. Now, if someone is in the store and I can get Rock Band for $160 on PS2 and Guitar Hero III for $90 on PS2, their decision may be made. I mean, for the price of Rock Band you could get GH3 and two guitars.

Celebrity support is for Guitar Hero III. The game is going to feature Slash and Bret Michaels. This is like when sports starts promote EA Sports games. It just lends it some credence.

Finally, Guitar Hero III is going bigger than ever before. As of now there are 36 songs announced for Rock Band. There are 61 songs confirmed for Guitar HeroIII. This may be the biggest point of all. Out of the box you are getting a sh*t load of music. Really, you're getting close to twice the number of songs. While Rock Band can say that they really have 3 times as many, since they can all be played with any of the instruments, that is bullshit. I know it's harder to develop the songs for 3 instruments, but when people go to the store they will see Guitar Hero 3's track list making that of Rock Band look puny.

i cant play any instrument to save my life, so i'm not going to be purchasing either :P
