CarbonCore
Unreal Tournament III Published by: Midway Games Developed by: Epic Games Genre: First-Person Shooter Number of players: 1 Single Player, 24 Multiplayer Release Date: November 2007 Platforms: Playstation 3, PC Features: Online play, User Generated Mods More Information Official Site UT3 IGN UT3 Gamespot General Information - The Necris invasion has begun, and your clan was one of the first to be slaughtered. Head to the front lines and join this Epic battle to defend humanity while taking your revenge. Unreal Tournament 3 marks the return of the premiere tournament-style first-person shooter. Unreal Tournament 3 unleashes the full power of Unreal Engine 3, taking graphics, gameplay, and challenge to a whole new level. Players engage in intense and hyper-real battles with other human players online or against incredibly realistic Unreal artificial intelligence. Over two dozen weapons and vehicles have been upgraded and enhanced for maximum killing potential. Take on all comers in a variety of game modes including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, an all-new Warfare mode and more. Weapons - Impact Hammer - returning from UT, replacing the Shield Gun. Dual Enforcers - returning from UT, replacing the Assault Rifles. Primary fire is a basic automatic shot; secondary fire is a three round burst. Canister Gun - has two firing modes: Grenade Launcher and Mine Layer. Different types of ammunition will be needed for each firing mode. This weapon effectively combines two different UT2004 guns into a single, multi-purpose device. This weapon is unconfirmed and it is rumored that the grenade launcher and spider layer will be separate weapons. With the revelation that the Bio Rifle was once again its own weapon, this weapon was presumed to have been dropped. Bio Rifle - similar to its previous UT games counterparts. A 25 January 2007 trailer and screenshot indicate this will be a separate weapon, as opposed to a mode for the Canister Gun, as previously mentioned by Epic. Shock Rifle - Playtests confirmed that this weapon is now more similar to the UT version; the rate of fire is slower than the UT2004 version, and the cores are smaller and faster. Link Gun - features a primary fire mode much like the Pulse Gun from UT, comprised mainly of repeated bolts of green energy. The Link Gun is much more similar to the UT version than UT2004's Link Gun, having a much faster primary rate of fire (media showing the Link Gun confirmed this). The secondary fire mode fires a beam that, when linked to other team mates wielding the Link Gun, enhances its power. Additionally, the Link Gun can be used to repair vehicles and charge/heal power nodes in Unreal Warfare. Tarydium Stinger - previously seen in Unreal and Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict, replaces the Minigun. The secondary fire mode has the ability to nail an opponent to a wall. Flak Cannon - much like its previous forms, sprays shards of hot metal when using the primary fire mode and, when using the secondary fire mode, launches an explosive flak shell into the air. Primary fire remains the same, but the arc of flak shells is shorter than it was in UT2004. Rocket Launcher - primary fire will function similarly to the UT2004 Rocket Launcher with the ability to fire up to three rockets. It will also have an alternate function to fire up to three grenades as well, as seen in Unreal and UT's "8-Ball" launcher, and dropped in UT2003/UT2004.[14]. The rocket launcher main fire retains its features from past games, being able to fire in either spread or tight spiral patterns. Rockets fire slower than the UT2004 version, but deal more damage. It also has an improved homing feature. AVRiL - Anti-Vehicle Rocket Launcher (the "i" being for pronunciation purposes) is a weapon whose main use is against vehicles. Primary fire shoots a slow but powerful anti-vehicle missiles; holding the crosshairs on a vehicular target causes the missiles to accelerate and home in on the target. Secondary fire zooms and locks on. AVRiL rockets can be shot down. It is ineffective against infantry. Sniper Rifle - much like its predecessors, the Sniper Rifle fires when primary fire is pressed, and zooms in or out when secondary fire is pressed. Translocator - a personal teleportation device. Primary fire launches a translocator beacon, while secondary fire teleports to that beacon. Redeemer - a portable nuclear missile capable of extreme damage. No information or media has been released about it for this version. Target Painter - activates a level specific hazard (such as a rock slide). Vehicles - The following vehicles have been confirmed: Hoverboard (Personal transportation) All players have a skateboard-like hoverboard when playing gametypes featuring vehicles, intended to provide a fast way to get around the larger maps of UT3. While on the hoverboard, players may "skitch", or attach themselves to a vehicle in order to be "towed" quickly. Players are unable to use their weapons, and are extremely vulnerable to attacks; the hoverboard is intended for non-combat use only. Players are able to perform tricks while on the hoverboard. Axon vehicles The vehicles in Unreal Tournament 2004, including those in the Editor's Choice Edition, will return in UT3, referred to as "Axon Vehicles" as they are manufactured by the Axon Corporation. These are the more traditional of the two sets. Manta (Quick Strike Ground-Skimmer) The Manta is an extremely fast and agile hovercraft, using a pair of fan rotors on either side to hover. Its primary weapon is a pair of plasma cannons, and the secondary is a downward thrust that brings the vehicle low enough to the ground to clip heads off with its rotor blades. Raptor (Air Superiority - dogfighter) The Raptor is a fast fighter equipped with plasma cannons and air-to-air homing missiles. Scorpion (Light Assault Buggy) The Scorpion buggy now has an enclosed **bleep**pit as opposed to UT2004's unshielded cabin and fires Grenades instead of bolas (plasma ribbons). It has a speed-boost function (similar to Unreal 2 XMP buggies) that allows long jumps off ramps and also works as a kamikaze self-destruct if the player ejects from the **bleep**pit. Its secondary weapon is a pair of blades that extend to either side for cutting down enemies. The blades now extend from under the nose of the vehicle, rather than the sides as in the UT2004 version. Hellbender (Armored Jeep) The Hellbender is a two-man armored jeep with shock weaponry and a heavy build. The driver is able to use the skymine turret eliminating the need for an extra gunner manning the turret, as was the case with UT2004. The vehicle's rear mounted beams have done away with the charge and release style attack; they now feature a much faster rate of fire similar to the Shock Rifle. Cicada (Airborne Support) The Cicada is a heavy, yet maneuverable two-seater flying gunship with an arsenal of powerful missiles. It also is equipped with a targeting mechanism allowing the pilot to target areas and release swarms of missiles. Unlike UT2004's Cicada, UT3's version will have its missiles home in on specific land units when they are targeted. The second seat controls a twin barrel turret on the belly. Hellfire SPMA (Remote Bombardment Cannon) The SPMA (or SPAM as many like to call it), is a long-range and mobile artillery unit that shoots powerful shells. The SPMA in UT3 has a half-track chassis (unlike the 6-wheel UT2004 version), and will allow players to more carefully calculate the trajectory and range of the shot - making the weapon more accurate to use. Whether or not the vehicle will have a skymine turret like the Hellbender (as it did in UT2004) is still unknown, but the vehicle does have a small, second turret on the front roof. Paladin (Prototype Defensive Tank) The Paladin is a prototype one-manned tank that moves (slowly) on 8 wheels rather than the traditional tank treads. It is equipped with a powerful plasma shot and a shield that protects it and nearby players from a particular direction. It also features a powerful shockwave explosion that surrounds the tank, activated by firing the main cannon into its own deployed shield. Goliath (Main Battle Tank) The new Goliath Mk.2 will feature improved handling and upgraded weaponry and it "should handle more like a tank than a brick". It has been rumored it will also feature destroyable treads. Playtests revealed that the main cannon fire was relatively the same; but the vehicle now featured a wide range "infantry killer" shell as its secondary fire. The secondary minigun turret has also been upgraded for much better accuracy and firepower. Leviathan (Mobile Weapons Platform) The Leviathan is a powerful five-man vehicle with a main turret controlled by the driver. The driver can deploy a super weapon at the cost of immobilizing the vehicle. There are also four secondary turrets controlled by other players. The secondary turrets feature shields similar to those on the Skaarj mothership's turrets in UT2004. Necris vehicles The Necris, an alien species in the Unreal universe, will have a rival set of vehicles. There will be 9 new Necris vehicles with very different styling and unusual behaviors. Although they will not parallel Axon's vehicles, they are intended to make a good balance against them. The following vehicles have been confirmed: Viper (Quick Strike Ground-Skimmer) Designed to be highly maneuverable. It will feature a kamikaze function which will allow the pilot to bail out and turn it into a sort of flaming projectile that will inflict much more damage than the turret weapon it has. Nemesis (Mobile Energy Turret) Will have snake-like treads which adapt to the ground below it as it moves. Its main gun is very similar to mounted energy turrets. This vehicle has a zoom function. This vehicle looks strikingly similar to the Scion Titan battle tank from Battlezone II. DarkWalker (Main Battle Tank) The main weapon will be a powerful twin laser beam which can fire in short bursts; secondary fire produces a tremendous "scream", which knocks opponents off their feet, making them easier targets. It will also have the ability to bend down or pop up in order to surprise the enemy, and as a walker will be capable of negotiating terrain too steep or uneven for a wheeled/tracked vehicle. Judging by screenshots, the Darkwalkers somewhat resemble the "Striders" in Half Life 2, and more strongly resemble the tripods from H.G. Wells's The War of the Worlds. The second seat of the darkwalker is a powerful turret that projects plasma in a beam capable of instantly vaporising an unarmored target. Fury (Air Superiority - dogfighter) A Necris aircraft that uses tentacles for a jellyfish-like method of propulsion through the air. Has the ability to boost and barrel roll to escape enemy fire. Nightshade A Necris vehicle with stealth abilities. Scavenger A Necris ground vehicle with the ability to roll into a ball and travel through levels at high speed. Questions and Answers- What is Unreal Tournament III? Unreal Tournament III will be an intense shooter experience the likes you've never seen before. It is a "semi-continuation" of the Unreal Tournament series, it's predecessor being Unreal Tournament 2004. What graphics engine is it using? It is using the powerful Unreal Engine III, the same graphics engine used to create Gears of War. Hm...Whatever happened to Unreal Tournament 2007? They are both the same. It's just that it got a name change. Dev "We felt the name change is the best way to communicate that this is more than just a series extension of the second series (UT2003 & UT2004) of Unreal Tournament. This is the 3rd generation UT on the 3rd generation Unreal Engine." What about Unreal Tournament iIi's single player campaign? Unreal Tournament III will have a deeper single player campaign than ever before. You play the role of a warrior who's friends and family have been destroyed by the Necris invasion. Now, you must travel from planet to planet to stop them. The decisions you make will influence your gameplay, so if you do something stupid, expect something to happen in the future. Yes, that sounds good, but what about online? The game will feature a new and improved online mode with the standard modes from the last games, but with better gameplay mechanics. Online on the Playstation 3 Network promises to be an unprecedented experience you won't see anywhere else. How many players will this game have? 24 players online per server. What about the rating? The rating is unknown, but due to the depictions of blood and gore in the game and language, you can pretty much guarantee that this game will be rated M for Mature players. ___________________________________________________ News So Far TG Daily: PS3 is "ideal" for Unreal Tournament Mods, says Epic Games Producer, July 13 There's really no reason to knock the PS3 build we saw, though. Real-time physics were implemented everywhere, from environmental elements to characters' clothing. It was also cool to see a defensive plasma-type "box" that players could run into. Shots fired through the box would move in slow motion, giving players a Matrix-style defense. Of course, Unreal Tournament has lived for quite a while mainly on the PC. With custom mods and constantly circulating game additions, it was a system that previously could not have fully worked on a console. The PS3 is the best platform to bring that stuff out of the PC realm, according to Morris. We could tell right away that the game was really tailored for the PS3, even though an Xbox 360 version is slated for next year. For example, a new hoverboard is controlled using the controller's motion sensitive Sixaxis technology, and allows the character to move at twice the speed of foot travel. "I don't even know how we'll do mods on the Xbox," said Morris. He said the PS3 online network is very developer-friendly. Mods could even be downloaded directly from the PS3 via the Internet browser, or brought over from a PC by way of a Memory Stick. Xbox Live has a very closed system, and takes around two weeks for a developer to get a new piece of content on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Gamespot UT3 User Generated Mods, July 12 Aside from the PS3 version looking to be on par with the PC version, the other key thing to know is that the PS3 version of the game will have support for mods and other user-created content, in a way that sounds like it will be a first for consoles. Mods built for the PC version will work on the PS3 version of the game. Right now, Epic is testing this functionality by copying the content onto a memory stick and then copying that to the PS3 hard drive, but they're hoping to get the PC removed from that equation and make mod and map downloading a part of the PS3 version. To speed up loading overall, the game can be completely installed to the PS3 hard drive, but you’ll still need to have the disc in the drive for copy protection purposes. E3 2007: UT3 PS3 Exclusive?, July 11 During E3 2007 Unreal Tournament 3 was also confirmed to be exclusive to the PS3 [and PC] this year. E3 2007: Midway Conference Live Blog, July 11 5:08 - Mark Rein, VP at Epic, takes stage to talk about Unreal Tournament. Exclusive to PC and PS3 this November. This contradicts what Sony said this morning at its press conference. E3 2007 Unreal Tournament 3 Hands-on - July 11 At Sony's post-conference arcade event, we managed to get our hands on the latest build of Unreal Tournament 3. The title, which Epic Games has designed for the PS3 to be virtually identical to the PC version, will feature some console specific functionality. For instance, players will be able to control the Hoverboard and Redeemer vehicles with Sixaxis controls if they want, giving them a different control scheme in the midst of battle. However, Epic didn't want the PS3 version to be completely divorced from access to the many mods that the Unreal Community frequently releases. As a result, UT3 on the PS3 will be able to download modded game content from the PC version of the game and instantly implement this content on the PS3 via memory stick. But PS3 owners won't even have to use their PC if they don't want to; players will be able to navigate to UT3 sites, downloading and uploading content at will. While the ability to support this large community of downloadable content was an impressive feature, UT3 will be no slouch out of the box. The game will include 40 maps to blast your way across, with up to 24 players on a map at any one time. That includes any number of spawned bots that you want to throw in to give you and your friends a challenge during a multiplayer map. We took on seven of these computerized opponents, and had a hefty trial ahead of us as the enemy soldiers pulled out just about every trick in the Unreal book to try to get their own killing sprees. That included using a wide mix of primary and alternate fire with the 11 different weapons in the game. While Epic didn't include any new weapons, they did tweak how each one works. For instance, if you take a close look at each blob from the Bio gun, you'll notice little organisms crawling in the ooze. Succumbing to this weapon causes your target to disintegrate into little pieces. It's a nasty way to go. We played a couple of rounds in the destroyed city level layout known as Heat Ray. Creatively, the key power-up in this rubble strewn stage wasn't the invisibility power-up or the armor pick-up. No, it was the inclusion of the Darkwalker vehicle which everyone sprinted towards as soon as it spawned. This tripod-like vehicle, which inspired War of the World comparisons, had three weapons that it could use within the game. The first was a beam weapon that players could fire and then draw across the landscape. Even if you miss your target, you could potentially paint your intended victim with the remainder of the blast. The second attack is a concussive blast projected out of the bottom of the vehicle, which immediately stunned any warriors directly beneath the walker. Finally, there was a fast turret at the bottom of the vehicle, which players could use to blast these stunned troops. Obviously, this gave a player a huge advantage against every other warrior on the map. It also made that person a target, because destroying the walker released a large power up that enabled a one hit kill regardless of the weapon used. This was a perfect way to engineer your own killing spree against your competition, and clean up on the scoreboard. This ruined city was contrasted by the other stage we witnessed, which was called Sanctuary. Set on the Necris home world surrounding a temple with tentacles, it pointed out one of the key facets of the single player campaign: The Necris are using tentacles to infect and change planets, leeching the life from the ground and twisting it for their wicked purposes. We were told that it wouldn't be much of a stretch to expect to return to the Sanctuary level more than once during the single player campaign, as maps would often have you return with different conditions, such as Axon vs Necris or Axon vs Axon forces. What's more, there would also be some branching options within the campaign, allowing you to dictate your UT3 experience as you fight across the various maps. We'll have more on UT3 soon. SCEA Unveils Third Party Software Lineup, July 11 In addition, PlayStation fans will have further reason to get excited about growing their game libraries as Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) and industry veterans Epic Games announced a multi-stage agreement. Revolutionizing the industry with the advent of the Unreal Engine when first launching the Unreal franchise several years ago, Epic Games has joined with SCE to fully optimize the Unreal Engine for PS3 development to assist developers using this engine to accelerate game creation and maximize performance. Already underway, this optimization currently affects seven developers using the Unreal Engine to create 20 games already in the works and with many more to come. As a result of the agreement, Midway and Epic Games will make the platform debut of Unreal Tournament 3, one of the world's premiere first-person shooters, exclusively on PS3 this fall, unleashing the full power of Unreal Engine 3 with graphics, gameplay and challenges brought to a whole new level. Featuring powerful futuristic weapons and vehicles unlike anything seen before, players will engage in intense and hyper-realistic battles with other players online, or against the Unreal artificial intelligence that has become the defacto industry standard. "The raw power of PS3 and Unreal Engine 3 allow us to provide gamers thefull Unreal Tournament 3 first-person shooter experience normally found only on a PC," said Mark Rein, vice president, Epic Games. "The PS3 is the ideal platform for us to deliver stunning visuals and awesome gameplay. But now, with the PLAYSTATION Network, we're also delivering a great community experience and robust user-created content -- everything that gamers have come to expect from the Unreal Tournament franchise -- for the first time on a home entertainment system." KnackChap
Rein: DVD size limiting UT3 on 360bwahahaaha "We may have fewer maps on the 360 version", says Epic's Mark Rein, before praising Sony's Blu-Ray The Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III might have to be cut down due to limitations of the DVD format, says Epic's Mark Rein. Speaking at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, Rein said: "We'll compress some things. But you know, we may have fewer maps on the 360 version... Blu-Ray has definitely given us a lot of legroom." The Epic VP added, "If you think down the road, well maybe the next UT beyond this one, on Blu-Ray disc, we might fill the whole damn disc with all the cool stuff the mod makers make." Is the DVD format starting to show its age then? Sony's championing of Blu-Ray has had its critics, but if developers start slapping meatier versions of their games onto the HD disc format, we might see a whole lot more people interested in shelling out for a PS3. Frankly we can't see why Epic can't just slap Unreal Tournament III's beefed-up single-player onto a second disc.

IMBender
Copy-Paste from another thread: Why do we have to get into "PS3 kicks Xbox 360 a*s. Xbox 360 kicks PS3 a*s. Wii kicks everyone's and their mother's a*s" stuff? It's just pointless sales numbers and we all buy the consoles we like. I have owned every PlayStation console except the PS3 (which I will be buying as soon as more flagship titles come to market) and own an Xbox 360 and am looking very much forward to buying a Wii by the end of the year. Sure, all of them have their advantages and disadvantages, but that's no reason to look towards cherry-picked videogame sales charts now, is there. I mean, how many times have we seen this "my e-pen0s is bigger than yours" sales unit showoffs by all three camps now? Its about time we decide a console's worth by the titles on it and how well it delivers them rather than which is outselling which where, which is, IMHO, absolutely pointless. Could we please stop knocking consoles around, comparing them pointlessly. I am postively appalled at the Xbox 360's failure rates and the PS3's lack of current software, but these are all situations that we should see change some time down the road. Decide a console's worth by its software and how well it plays it, please, for the love of God!
CarbonCore
Unreal Tournament 3 (PS3) Will Run at 60FPS http://loot-ninja.com/2007/08/22/unreal-to...l-run-at-60fps/ It was recently confirmed by CVG that Unreal Tournament 3 on the PS3 will run at 60 frames per second. The console version itself is looking in great shape; the version we saw today was running at a solid 60fps and looked near-identical with the PC counterpart, which was also running side by side. Mouse and keyboard support is also confirmed, although Epic wouldn’t say anything when we quized them about crossplatform play. Sounds like a plan to me. Good to see that Epic has the Unreal Engine 3 running well on the PS3. This will prove beneficial for future games that use the engine. KnackChap
Gamespy plays Unreal Tournament 3 PS3 We fired up the PS3 version, and the first thing we noticed was how crisp it looked. Our demo largely showed off Necropolis, a stage that shows off the Necris' native environment. We'd describe the art design as something along the lines of if H.R. Giger got to design Constantinople. Control-wise, UT III will let you play with a controller or use a keyboard and mouse setup. We played with a Sixaxis, and noticed that the action felt pretty smooth for a console FPS. Primary and secondary fires both felt intuitively placed on the shoulder buttons, and both reloads and jumps worked well. Quote: In the single-player portion of Unreal Tournament III, you'll have a branching campaign written by the author of Gears of War's storyline. The path you choose at certain pivotal points will, as it has with multitudes of other games, influence your ultimate outcome. The logistics on downloadable mods are still being worked out, but if all else fails, you'll be able to get a mod from the PC version, slap it on any portable memory device that the PS3 can read, from USB drives to Memory Stick to SD Card, and put it on the PS3 hard drive. You'll also be able to install portions of the game to the PS3 hard drive to shave off some of the loading times. if this game has a good 6-10 hrs single player mode,im buying it.
