Killzone 2 - Stupid Region locking and DLCs

So I just spent $6 on the Steel and Titanium map packs, buying a US PSN card on ebay.... spent a n hour downloading it... another 10 minutes installing it.... another 20 minutes figuring out why it wouldn't sign me in the games with the new maps.... only to figure out...... well....... the maps are region-locked!!!!! :majesty: :majesty:

And it seems that there are only two solutions - either waste some more money and time getting someone to hook me up with the DLC maps on the EU store, or get a US copy of Killzone... The first one being waaaaaaaay to difficult and irritating to organize, I'm thinking of the second one - but I have a question. If I get a US (Region 1) disk would I need to install the game again? And would it erase my save games for the game?

Bro, to clear everyone doubt again:

OK, now I know that DLC locked was NOT checked by region code(R1, R2, R3), was checked by the sony code which is on the cover spine and on the game disc(eg: BCAS12365)

I make a example

recently I bought Far cry 2 Fortunes Pack and LittleBigPlanet METAL GEAR SOLID Level and Character Pack.

I saw that Far cry 2 is "BLUS30178" which is a US version only can play on US version disc only.

Quote:

UP0001-BLUS30178_00-ASIAFARCRYFORTUN-H001 Far Cry® 2 Fortunes Pack (English Ver.) SGD14.99

But I bought on asia ps store, so the FC2 asia version disc is likely is a US version disc. Which means the DLC can play on FC2 asia or US version disc.

But LBP DLC is different, When I bought these two DLC, it written as:

Quote:

HP9000-BCAS20058_00-PLITTLEBIG000034-H001 LittleBigPlanet™ METAL GEAR SOLID® Level Pack (English/Chinese/Korean Ver.) SGD8.49

HP9000-BCAS20058_00-PLITTLEBIG000036-H001 LittleBigPlanet™ METAL GEAR SOLID® Character Pack (English/Chinese/Korean Ver.) SGD8.49

that's right, LBP DLC packs is "BCAS20058" which is a asia version of the disc. So you can't buy on asia ps store if you have other LBP versions of the game disc.

Hope this will understand that not every DLC is region locked.

So check for the code on the spine and you can never go wrong. I've had an instance of a friend having an Australian NTSC disc and yet the DLC from US store did not work for him, because his code on the spine would read "AU" where the US store would be "US".

I know Sony has all messed up and should have had one store for games download since the disc is already region free. :O

Also your saved game does not depend on NTSC/PAL, but the same logic of the region code on the spine of the disc. Thus a NTSC (US) coded disc will not restore your ES (europe) saved data but will work with the DLC from the UK store.

So my save games go too?? Well @#$ Killzone in that case. This is some real crap from Sony. And then they wonder why people buy pirated stuff...

well not really. If you are commited to a game then better buy it in your region. If its just play and throw then who cares anyways?

How does it matter ? In the end both the publisher, dev are getting money.

Its just stupid screwing with the consumers.

Price differentiation is the name of the game. What region locking allows you to do is to charge $5 for some DLC in the States and then charge 5GBP (about $8) in the UK for the same thing!! This would be great news for us IFF there was a India PSN Store and we would get the same $5 DLC at Rs. 150. But Sony has seriously #@$%ed up on getting the store here.

So is there anyone kind enough here (hint: mrprashanth's Irish friend  ) who can share the EU version of the Steel & Titanium Map packs with me?

Sony has lot to do to setup an Indian store, the games that they sell in India are all from Europe and thus carry the "ES" tag on their spine. To start with they would have to sell a "IN" tagged game in India so to restrict Europeans with the ES tag to be able to use the Indian store for their downloads. Now with all those games in India that has already been sold with he ES tag, how will they download the DLC from the Indian store that would possibly accept only the IN tagged games ? So I believe its a seriously f**ked up technical reason there.

i know what u mean bro.....but the point is if they want us to buy our own region games, they NEEEED!! to make sure that we our geting the same value as the ppl from other region......otherwise they don't deserve to be paid for their region

pricing is a different topic alltogether. There are many variables which influence price hence we cant really expect universal pricing thoughout.

Even in US PSN pricing varies from state to state due to tax.

do u know want to how i got it?

Well i am very active at playfire and made a thread "Who has got a big heart to share the killzone 2 DLC with me stating the reasons,i got quite a lot of replies in the thread mostly saying they had already shared it"

Only one person sent me a personal message to my account on playfire "Bro what do i need to do to share it with u"

I messaged him back saying all i need is your psn sign in id and password, then the very next minute he sent me them, went into his account, download history and TAADAAAA put it on download, came online on playfire and asked him to change the password, went to the forums and created a thread saying

"there is indeed a person with a big heart" but never revealed his name as i would need the killzone 2 DLC map Pack 2 which was announced recently!!Very nice person,he understood what we killzone 2 fans were going through and shared with me!!
