Ubisoft is working on an open world Star Wars game with Lucasfilm Games. The Division developer, Ubisoft Massive will develop the new game.

Per a report from Wired, no other gameplay details were announced, and Massive is seemingly still recruiting for the project.

The game will utilise the Snowdrop engine used for the studio’s Division games, and Division 2 director Julian Gerighty will direct this project too. No indication has been given as to whether Massive's Star Wars game would be single or multiplayer, what part of the Star Wars timeline it would be a part of, or when it might be released.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot did give a small tease, saying the game will be "an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that has been done before." Lucasfilm also said all Star Wars games would continue to be treated as canon alongside the film TV, book, and comic releases.

Guess no Division 3 for a while at least. Good.

Thought that only EA has rights to make Star Wars games.

Deal expires in 2023. Doubt this is coming before that.

Guess they are going to allow other studios to make SW games too after deal ends.

Electronic Arts will too play a big role in the future of Star Wars gaming. “We’re really proud of the games we have created with EA,” Reilly says. “We will continue working with them and our relationship has never been stronger. While we may not have a lot of details to share at the moment, we’ve got a number of projects underway with the talented teams at EA.”

Yeah seems that LucasFilm is signing up with multiple partners instead of one partner after EA’s fiasco with SW. 3 for now - EA, Ubisoft and Bethesda (Indiana Jones)

Ubisoft one will sell more, but Microsoft first party made Lucas Arts game will be of better quality and get better reviews. :P

Disney is seeing the $$s to be made with well made games after all.

Yep, and STAR WARS is still a massive IP. Lots of stories to explore. With how Mandalorian became super successful, they probably thought of letting multiple studios to work so they can put SW/their IP related game each year.

Hopefully not generic Ubilol open world garbage.

Ubisoft and open world. ?

With The Division developer taking the lead...

Assasins creed, fynix and Beyond G&E2 seem good why all the hate ?

Anyway how is this possible, does lucasfilm games hold all licensing and can give licenses to any publisher as they please.

Some of the characters enter cannon verse though like how they confirmed jedi fallen order protagonist to be cannon. So how will multi publisher star war universe continuity work ?

Legion sucked. Valhalla sucked. Their open world games are just copy-paste everywhere with barely anything unique. Couldn't keep me more than 5 hours. Beyond G&E2 ded at the moment.

Because Disney owns everything. They can get anyone to work on their IPs. EA was only one make before but looks like they will be expanding now.

All Star Wars games would continue to be treated as canon alongside the film TV, book, and comic releases. Most likely each studio will cover different part of SW/other IPs.

Whoa that is some big project at disney making publishers to play well with one another. Assassin's creed imo is applying if it ain't broke don't fix, the open worlds are good fun to explore and were part of a trilogy of sorts so if you don't compare them to prior stealth based AC games then you might enjoy them more.

Sadly that is correct. Am very much tired of Ubisoft open worlds but they seem to keep hitting bigger sales number (at least in AC case).
