Dead Island 2, the sequel to 2011's Dead Island and 2013's Dead Island: Riptide, will launch in spring 2015, publisher Deep Silver.

After the first outbreak on Banoi in Dead Island 1, the world has moved on. Zombies are known and everyone feels safe and prepared. Companies are selling vaccines and the latest zombie survival kits and people believe that the disaster that occurred on a small island in the middle of nowhere could never happen to them. But they were so WRONG!

Suddenly, a string of brutal outbreaks occur in California and the government puts a wall around the infected area – leaving California as a “Dead Island.” Dead? Not entirely, because let’s face it, a zombie apocalypse has its upsides as well: No boring job, no traffic jams, and no bills to pay.

This new zombie California invites you to become the ultimate hero of the apocalypse to explore a dynamic, bright, and beautiful open world where you and your friends fight endless zombie hordes with your handcrafted weapons. The combat system of the game has been redone from scratch to provide a more visceral experience and control than ever before, and you will need this control to overcome all the dynamic challenges and new enemy types the game will throw at you.

But the element we are most proud of is the seamless, social multiplayer. Here is where everything comes together to create a shared survival, dynamic open world — experience! Eight players are constantly sharing a world and it is up to you if you want to cooperate, compete or simply coexist. This creates the ultimate zombie playground where you can live this second chance in life.

Looks cool.

Platform: TBA, my guess: PC, PS4 & XBOX One!

More details soon.

Thought I would ask...

I was thinking about picking up a Dead Island game. I had a long while back tried Dead Island I and never really got on with the game. To be fair I didn't give the game much time and as a result never got into it. Will Riptide be a good title to pick up?

Neither of them are buggy. Both are fun if you are into open-world-mindless-zombie-killing. It's better when you play co-op.

Also, Riptide is more like an expansion pack. I'd start with Dead Island, and then check out Riptide.

Hmm... interesting. Thing is, I just played Dying Light and absolutely loved playing through it! Thus, the thought of Dead Island popped into my head. Is it important to play Dead Island before Riptide story-content wise or does it not matter much?

No, no need to play Dead Island before Riptide. Riptide works as standalone expansion with new story (not a great one) and characters.

Pros: Some improvements over original game, which is good. Combat is smooth as well.

Cons: You won't be able to import your character from original game if you skip. Also, after playing Riptide, it'll be hard to play original game (you'll find it less interesting).

Also, I think once you finish the main story, you can't go back and do other missions. So, beware.

(^I'm not sure if they have patched it or not)

I started with Dead Island, the first one, a couple of days ago and so far it's been pretty fun stuff. I have hardly progressed with the main missions... been entirely engrossed in doing the side missions. The weapons lying around in the map are okay-ish but a couple of weapons I got from side quests (like the dangerous wrench and hammer) and proceeded to upgrade at the weapons bench has been very effective. :)
