NEW RULES FOR FREE OFFERS

As you all are aware, many of GI's members have shown extreme consideration in hosting free giveaways for games, hardware, posters, and other such goodies. These giveaways have been put up by the members in order to benefit other members who may not own the item but would like to possess them. The offers have specific guidelines and conditions mentioned in them and one of the most common ones is that members who win the item should not put it up for sale in the Trading Post or otherwise monetize the item received.

It has come to our attention that one of our members who has been the beneficiary of the generosity of another member of GI has been trying to sell the item on another website. Now this is an item he received free of cost. We have concrete proof of this which has been pointed out by the same member who had gifted the item. We are extremely disappointed by this despicable behaviour and have decided to put in place certain measures to ensure that this doesnt happen again.

While we acknowledge that these offers are not official IVG Offers but are sponsored by our members in their individual capacities, we do not like to see our members hurt or disappointed by such blatant breach of trust. This harms the GI community because the member had gifted the item is now considering whether he should gift any more items in future, thus depriving other members of a chance to win free goodies.

The offending member is in the process of being banned for life from GI and we are proposing to put up new eligibility criteria for such offers.

The proposed new norms are as follows:

1] Only members with a minimum post count of 500 posts will be eligible to participate. (Members found spamming to reach the post count criteria will have their post count reset to zero. On repeat offense, the member will be banned.)

2] Only members with a minimum positive trading feedback of 3 and zero negative feedback will be eligible. In case there is negative trading feedback, the member will require to have at least 5 times the positive feedback as the number of negative feedback. (for eg: if a member has one negative feedback, he will need to have at least 5 positive feedbacks to be eligible. In case of 2 negative feedbacks, at least 10 positive remarks will be required, and so on.)

3] Members on the Trading caution list are not eligible

These rules will become effective from 00:01 am on Sunday, December 13, 2008. All existing open offers will be put on hold till then.

NOTE:

Members who are running the offers are free to have their own rules and do not have to adopt the above. But in these instances, the GI Staff will not be in any position to help you resolve any issues and if any member has broken your rules, he or she will not be banned or censured in any way.

We welcome your opinion and feedback on these new rules and will try and accommodate reasonable suggestions, but the final decision on these rules will rest with the admins of GI.

EDIT

Okay.

Based on the feedback received from all of you we have decided NOT to impose any rules for the free offers. The main reason for this is the lack of any better yet impartial alternative to the post count criteria, which in itself is not a completely fair benchmark.

Here's what we propose to do instead:

SITUATION 1

Official punishment for breaking rules of the offer

Members running free offers can contact the Mods/Admins with the entire opening post of their offers along with any rules and conditions they might want to impose. If they specifically wish that members breaking the rules should be banned or punished, this should be mentioned in their PM to us. Based on what the rules and conditions are and what we judge to be fair, the Mods/Admins will signify their consent or lack thereof, to some sort of punishment for offending members. Only then can the offers be opened.

SITUATION 2

No official punishment for breaking rules of the offer

Members who wish to put up free offers but do not want the Mods/Admins to get involved in case of any post deal disputes with the winners, do not need to PM us before opening the threads with the offers.

Members without trading feedback should be ineligible.

What do you suggest?

MT i personally think those are the members who have contributed a lot to forums without looking to buy or sell stuff...we should consider them as a matter oof fact the trading post rule should come into consideration if the member who won has a negative feedback.

Seconded. The 500 post rule is fair enough, but I'm not so sure about the TP Feedback one.

as aftrunner mentioned, even i'm kinda disappointed with the 500 posts criterion for obvious reasons

quite frankly IMHO it makes very little sense...i've been on this forum for more than an year now but i guess if i would have posted ':)' 10 times a day as replies, i would be held in different light according to these new rules; but whatever...ur forums ur rules
