  1. Here are some alternative SaaS platforms: Vanilla: https://vanillaforums.com/features/forums/ Discourse (open source): https://www.discourse.org/features IPB's SaaS platform: https://invisioncommunity.com/buy Tribe is great but too expensive ($500 per month) Or we could move to a traditional forum software like phpBB which is free and self-hosted. Many other forums use it. Only issue is that it looks even more dated than IPB.
  2. The lowest tier should be fine for us. Migration cost is $250, but waived off if we pay for the full year up front. But I'm a bit concerned about getting stuck with a 1 yr commitment if their servers are sluggish and they aren't able to optimise performance. Would everyone be okay with having these forums as read-only and switching to an entirely platform from scratch?
  3. IPB has an SaaS offering, and they can also port our content and database from here for a fee: https://invisioncommunity.com/buy
  4. Moving to a new platform is an option. There are similar software suites, and also SaaS solutions like Tribe. The question is how much can we export and use on those platforms. If not posts and threads, we should at least be able to transfer the members database.
  5. I've been trying to find a solution to it, but the forums have become so bloated over the last 10+ years, there doesn't seem like much can be done, short of dumping it and starting from scratch. Even our AWS billing is through the roof (35k per month) because the forums have become so unoptimised that its taxing the server. The forums software company (Invision) has a service where we can move the forums to their own server but they can't guarantee that it will run any smoother.
  6. Hey guys, Those of you visiting IVG through Tapatalk may have noticed notifications issues and other bugs. We've been trying to resolve those but it seems like Tapatalk doesn't seem to support this forum platform very well at the moment. So I've removed Tapatalk entirely, and we'll keep it that way - partly because there are frequent issues with their plugin and each update seems to add more bugs, but also because the mobile browser version of the forums is actually quite good (a lot better than Tapatalk IMO) and it will just be a far smoother experience over time.

  8. Hey guys, I don't think we already have a thread about this so I thought it might help, especially given the global scenario we're in. I also thought of starting this thread because an ex-colleague is working on a story around how online gaming and gaming communities have helped people deal with mental health issues, and also helped people make friends. There's a lot of evidence out there that gaming can help people dealing with conditions like anxiety, depression and autism. I personally know a couple of people who, through IVG and the people they met here, were able to over come their mental health troubles. So it would be great to hear some stories of how gaming has helped you or someone you know. You don't have to if its too personal, but sharing your story might help someone else. --------------------------------------- Sharing below a message from Anu, who is looking for inputs for her story: I am an independent journalist based in Mumbai and I've written for Huffington Post, India Today, Scroll, Mumbai Mirror, National Geographic Traveller and so on. Please find more information about me and my work here: anuprabhakar.contently.com. I am now hoping to write an article on how the gaming community can be a source of support and comfort for those battling anxiety, depression and other mental health issues in India, where seeking help for mental health is still largely considered taboo (although things are changing, slowly). I am looking for people who have made friends through gaming - I believe multiplayer games are very popular for this reason as well - and think of the gaming community as a safe space where they can share their struggles. I would love to get in touch with gamers who would like to participate in my article and share their story. Members can remain anonymous in the article. My email id is anuprabhakar2016@gmail.com. If this article interests you at all, please do reach out and I would love to take this forward. Thank you.

  12. If you have bought an Xbox Series X or Series S console, or even if you own an Xbox One, you can join the IVG club on Xbox. Clubs are online meeting places created by the Xbox community for like-minded people to enjoy multiplayer gaming and socializing. Find out how to join a club so you can chat, play games, share content, and join other players’ parties. Once in a club, youu can share the screenshots and clips of games that you are currently playing on the Club's activity feed - other members can like and comment on such shared content. Parties can be created. There are a tons of options for increasing engagement. The club is called IVG Community and is open to everyone. This is different than game-specific official clubs like Horizon Clubs for Forza Horizon 4. FH4 players can freely join the IVG club, called [IVGC] Steps to join the IVG Club: 1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to pull up the Xbox guide 2. Switch right to the People tab, where you will find the option for Clubs 3. Once in the Clubs menu, select Discover Clubs 4. Next, select Explore all clubs 5. On the next screen, you will find the option to Find a club. 6. Search for "IVG Community" and request to join and I or one of the admins will accept your request. If your request is not accepted, drop a message here. If anyone who is regularly on Xbox would like to be a club admin, please post in this thread.

  14. Take-Two to acquire Codemasters The Grand Theft Auto publisher will use a mix of cash and shares to purchase all currently issued and yet-to-be-issued shares in Codemasters, giving Take-Two 100% ownership. It was previously suggested the deal could value Codemasters at £759 million ($994 million), but the latest notice says this will instead by £726 million ($956 million).
