North
Hello gutys, kaafi issue life mein, which is why I haven't been active on the forum much. can barely keep my job afloat. Need to share, can also use advice. to summarise friends : dad had some leg infection, he had a quick operation and a 4 day stay in the hospital in february. his insurance (not corporate) did pay for it but it was really annoying. so my dad, based on this poor experience decides to port over his insurance policy to Niva Bupa - having heard good things. he did it online, using Policy Bazaar. My dad's self employed, he's a freelance consultant and hence doesn't have the standard corporate benefits. The earlier policy was 20 years strong with just the 1 use. This happens in March. Post this operation, dad goes for follow ups and gets blood tests as one normally does. Numbers look weird for a while, but we wait to see if it resolves. When it does not, we consult a series of doctors. Conclusion, dad has 'hairy cell leukaemia', a rare type of cancer. The good part is the treatment is short and one usually goes into remission and is sorted for a good while. Dad got pretty ill though after a trip to Mumbai in early may, comes back to Delhi, we admit him to the hospital a couple days later for rest, recovery and this short period of chemotherapy. They keep him another 10 days or so. I used my corporate insurance (smooth as hell) but the coverage wasn't enough. Dad wished to use his policy for the rest (3L) but they denied cashless payment, and said we'd have to submit documents for reimbursment after paying the hospital up front. After 1-1.5 months of chasing this reimbursement claim, they deny it and cancel the policy on grounds of non disclosure. I know its not ideal to be ill right after you get a new insurance policy but sometimes these things just happen. Now, this money isn't the end of the world, and my dad isn't fully sorted but at least he's okay and he's home with us. I wish none of this happened to us, but what can I say. Is there any possibility of resolution? We've tried a fair few avenues already. Its about 3L in the hole.

As for the insurance, I think you should reach out to the guys at Ditto insurance and get advice from them.

Can't say much but a family member had to go through surgery for congenital issue. The insurance agent added the family member a year later than required so we were in the cool down period and the claim got rejected. Cost me over 3 lacs but I am happy to have the family member operated and back home. It is a minor set back and I pray to god that you and your family to get the strength and will to leave all of this behind you and enjoy the 1st day of the rest of your long lives.
