WarDevil for Xbox 360 Not Cancelled

Remember WarDevil? The post-apocalyptic game was originally slated as a multiplatform release way back when, but then the Xbox 360 version was scrapped so the development team, Digi-Guys, could focus on one platform. But then the game went into hiding for several years until, well, now.

A representative informed IGN that the previously cancelled version of the game is now set for a simultaneous release alongside the Playstation 3. No details about a shipping date were given, however.

Some interesting bits from the Wardevil article in Edge. Apparently the devs are achieving Rage-quality visuals on an original Xbox

Such is the nature of Digi-Guys' new pipeline, though - designed as it is to render Hollywood-grade visuals at true 1080p, at an unbroken 60frames per second, using just one core of a modern Console CPU - that the demo would have to do much more with much less to be valid proof of concept.

The crux of it is the use of such high-resolution textures that it avoids the traditional break in fidelity from feature film standard to in-game. So what you'd expect to see even in modern games - textures that turn to porridge if you look too close - doesn't happen here. Then there's the motion blur, of the kind seen in Jurassic Park rather than the harsh, sometimes nauseating vector blur used in modern games. Add to that many of the light and particle effects you'd expect to see today, and a healthy layer of anti-aliasing. All on a original Xbox which then has the pleasure of rendering it twice, a debug menu bringing two separate cameras to the scene.

Lots more here

Game looks more Killzone-ish than Rage. Frame rates were rock solid but the game looked a bit sloppy maybe that's cos the enemy AI didn't even lift a finger in retaliation while the WarDevil slaughtered all their comrades.

Oh and the game is multiplatform as confirmed by the game's producer.
