MarketTantrik
Guitar Hero III to Drive Console Software Sales up 50% in October – Analyst From Gamedaily http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/gui...analyst-/18500/ ________________________________________________________________ Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter believes Guitar Hero III (along with Halo 3 and Orange Box) allowed October's video game sales to soar. In advance of the NPD's October video game sales report later this week (Nov. 15), Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter has issued his own preview, which predicts console software sales to grow a whopping 50 percent. Pachter is anticipating sales of $555 million, in large part spurred on by Activision's Guitar Hero III, which he believes accounted for $100 million in sales on one million unit sales. Activision previously reported that the game sold over $115 million across North America in its first seven days on the market. In terms of hardware, Pachter is forecasting 450,000 units for Wii, 400,000 for DS, 325,000 for Xbox 360, 225,000 for PSP, 190,000 for PS2 and 125,000 for PS3. He said PS3 sales should see a small boost on the $499 announcement for the 80GB model while Xbox 360 sales should fall around 200,000 units following the Halo 3 spike last month. In addition to Guitar Hero III, other drivers of sales are expected to include Electronic Arts' The Orange Box (PC, 360), and continued strong sales of EA's Madden NFL 08 and Nintendo's Wii Play and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. PS2 software sales are also expected to continue to decline as more and more consumers pick up one of the new consoles. PS2 software sales are down 24 percent through September and Pachter believes sales fell 47 percent in October. That said, PS2 sales should "stabilize" through the end of the year "as the DVD versions of Spider-Man 3, Shrek the Third, Ratatouille, The Simpsons Movie, and Transformers are expected to drive sales of the video games for each film. In addition, PS2 sales of Guitar Hero III should be very strong for the remainder of the year." Pachter believes 2007 will finish strong. "Although we think that sales of Halo 3, The Orange Box and Guitar Hero III accounted for virtually all of the growth during the month, we think that improving hardware console pricing and the broad diversity and popularity of software will position the industry for solid sales growth in November and December," he said. _________________________________________________________________________ Lets see how right this bloke is considering that NPD has decided to continue to publish its monthly console sales figures after all three console makers agreed to allow the figures to be released. --MT

CarbonCore
40GB PS3 sells 50,000 in first day in Japan http://www.texyt.com/40GB+Sony+PS3+sales+5...n+Famitsu+00120 Sales of Sony's PS3 video games console surged 300 per cent after the company released a cheaper model in Japan last week, according to leaked survey data. Sony Japan introduced the new PS3 model with a 40GB hard disk drive on November 11. One day later, local PS3 weekly sales figures had soared from an average of 16,000 to almost 66,000. The figures are contained in preliminary data from the latest edition of a regular survey by Japan-based video games publisher and market survey firm, Enterbrain. The substantial surge in weekly sales comes despite the release of the console occurring on the last day of the week. It is unclear what proportion of the sales resulted from pre-orders. PS3 takes top spot The huge increase in sales enabled the PS3 to take the top spot in full-sized console sales from Nintendo's Wii console for the first time. The Wii typically sells less than 35,000 per week in Japan, although sales have risen to 37,500 following the release of the popular game, Super Mario Galaxy. The 40GB unit retails for $100 less than older models. The new console also lacks some features, including a flash memory device reader, two of the original four USB ports, and backwards compatibility with PS2 games. The Japanese version of the 40GB PS3 features a new 'Ceramic White' case color. LMAO at last week's 200 console lead by X360 :rofl2: :rofl2: . It is absolutely stomped by this week's sales figures. And there are still five days left in this week

KnackChap
someone send that to kotaku i want a nice spin on that. rofl kotaku fell for it :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: the most hilarious article by kotaku ever :rofl2: :rofl2: Japan Did the Elite Outsell The 40GB PS3? When the Xbox 360 Elite hit Japan, the black console sold right out. And when the 40GB PLAYSTATION 3 went on sale, it didn't. Japanese site Ota Road claims that the limited edition Elites (Japan only got 5,000) actually sold better the 40GB PS3. What's more, the new and cheaper PLAYSTATION 3 doesn't seem like it sold out anywhere in Osaka's Den-Den Town. Things to keep in mind: This isn't based on official sales figures, but rather visiting multiple Den-Den Town retailers. What's more, stores most likely had a larger stock of 40GB PLAYSTATION 3s than Xbox 360 Elites. However, the Elite's launch was backed by little to no support from Xbox Japan, while Sony rolled out four television ads for the new, cheaper PS3 model. We won't know until we see the sales figures, though. One thing that is sure: There's no shortage of 40GB PS3s in Japan. mwahahahaahahahah the first day sales of the 40gb in japan was 2X the slaes of wii in the mario galaxy launch week and 40gb first day sales were 1/10 of the total userbase of x360 in japan(2years) nice try kotaku aka microsoft defence force

MarketTantrik
G*: Microsoft: Xbox 360 Sales, Though Low, Dwarfing PS3 Sales in Korea From Gamasutra http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=16192 ___________________________________________________________________ G*: Microsoft: Xbox 360 Sales, Though Low, Dwarfing PS3 Sales in Korea? During an interview at the Gstar international game expo in Seoul, Microsoft Korea spoke with Gamasutra about relative next-gen marketshare in the local sphere. When pressed about the Xbox 360's total units sold in South Korea, Dae Hwan Lim, marketing coordinator for Microsoft Korea's entertainment & device division (which includes the Xbox 360), conceded that "I can’t say myself, but some reports here said about 100,000." "It should be possible to pass Japan with the number of hardware sold," he added, but wasn't keen to elaborate, saying "I can’t predict when." Lim was coaxed into a discussion of relative next-gen marketshare, however, when presented with the fact that the PlayStation business entered the market much stronger and earlier than Microsoft did. (The South Korean market, like many non-Japanese Asian markets, is still dominated by online PC games, rather than game consoles.) "At the time, people were aware of video games," he says, "but the userbase wasn’t really established. But after the PlayStation, they could see the possibilities of the market. So Microsoft saw that there were some prospects, and decided to come." "So with the launch of the Xbox, we had a direct competitive relationship with the PS2," admitted Lim. "But with the launch of the Xbox 360 in 2006, we stepped forward." Squeezed for further details, the marketer remarked that the "Xbox 360 is doing much, much better (than the PS3). There’s a huge gap in market sales. I can’t mention other company’s numbers directly, but it’s multiples larger." ___________________________________________________________________ I bet the Koreans bought Command & Conquer for the X360 in the millions and are eagerly awaiting Supreme Commander :rofl2: --MT

vinitwins
http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/mic...momentum/18566/ Microsoft Hypes Xbox 360 Momentum Immediately following the eye-popping October video game sales data, Microsoft decided to pat itself on the back and highlight several key data points of the Xbox business. Here are some of the more interesting tidbits: # For the month of October, Xbox 360 led in total revenue with $354 million compared to $246 million for Wii and $116 million for PS3. # Xbox 360 software revenue at retail surpassed that of Wii and PS3 combined. # For the month of October according to NPD, Xbox 360 software represented 54 percent of total software sales (at $162 million dollars) for this generation, compared to 30 percent for Wii and 16 percent for PS3. # Xbox 360 was home to seven out of the top 10 rated games through the end of October according to Metacritic. # Of all 3rd party U.S. software revenue in October, Xbox 360 generated more than double that of the PS3 and Wii. Xbox 360 weighs in at 57 percent with $130 million, compared to Wii with 28 percent and PS3 at 15 percent. # PS3 and Wii combined had one third party title in the top ten console title list for the month, while Xbox 360 weighed in with 2. Since November, third party partners have seen their titles hit the top ten 29 times for Xbox 360, compared to 2 for PS3 and 2 for Wii. # In last week's earnings announcement from Electronic Arts, Xbox 360 represented 50 percent ($218 million) of their total revenue during the third quarter. In fact, EA titles on Xbox 360 outperformed those same titles on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, Wii and DS combined. V
