Halo 4

Yeah unless by that they mean the ENTIRE article is bullshit I call damage control. There is NO to explanation for instant respawns in a TDM that make it sound good. Or gaining XP to unlock perks, which basically leaves new guys up a shits creek. Or any of the other half a dozen bits of bullshit in that article (lol see through walls? Really?).

Here is what their "explanations" will boil down to. "Guys its really customizable so you can still have the classic Halo experience in specific playlists."

The campaign shows a lotta promise...

The game looks really awesome in motion and

there are quite a few cinematic sequence

the planet they land on is something of a variation of a dyson sphere created by forerunners called requiem which in itself is a variation of a shield world.

The new enemy will have very different tactics, classes, weapons and equipment than the covenant..

"Seeing the planet evokes many of the same feeling that came to mind the first time we crash landed on the original Halo back in 2001"

On the other hand the multiplayer.. well we just have to wait and watch I suppose..

"When players boot up Halo 4 a new option awaits called infinity. This mysterious name is the new home of Halo multiplayer, and represents a quantum shift in the thinking about one of gaming's most iconic and poplular game modes."

MP ties directly into the Campaign

Spartan IV's are drwan from the top ranks of existing UNSC special ops soldiers and are equiped with a lightweight variation of the Mjolnir armor.

They are deployed aboard the UNSC Infinity in a "deep space mission" and the Infinity directly crosses the Chiefs path over the course of the game.

The Spartan IV's train on board the Infinity's state-of-the-art Combat deck not unlike Star Treks holodeck or the X-mens Danger room.

Going to start of at the rank of recruit and proceed through the ranks.

As you rank up, you'll unlock more abilities.

Currency called spartan points are used to purchase items to put in your loadouts and these loadouts can be constructed around your preferred playstyle.

The player unlocks weapons, AA and modifications and the resulting loadouts are like your own customized class, which you can switch between any respawn.

This MP canon also ties into the new Spartan Ops mode

"Think of it as Missions away from the UNSC Infinity"

This mode is built to be played with your Spartan IV from the competitive MP.

4 Player Co-Op involves players working together on an evolving episodic campaign, comparable to the single-player storyline in scope and size.

Will add more details from the article soon.

The spartan Ops is structured like a TV season.

Each week players gain access to a new CG movie sequence that slowly unfolds the story of the UNSC Infinity mission.

Along with this story component, five objective based, CO-op missions will release.

"These missions are new content offering unseen events, locations and challegnes to overcome that week"

THIS IS NOT PAID DLC! Spartan Ops are part of the experience you buy when you purchase Halo 4 and the story will strech out accross several months of content.

You set the difficulty for these missions same as for the campaign, from Easy to Legendary.

Playing Halo 4

The MP begins with your own personal Spartan IV.

along with the cosmetic armor adjustments, it allows for extensive, customization of your loadout.

Choosing primary and secondary weapons along with grenade type and armor abilty.

There is also a fith customization option called, mdifications whose purpose has not been revealed.

Old classic weapons are back like the BR, DMR, Assualt Rifle, Covenant Carbine, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, Rockect Launcher, magnum and Plasma Pistol, but there are also numerous other weapons yet to be revealed.

Sprint is a standard ability now

Confirmed AA's are Jetpack, Hologram, Active Camo and the new Forerunner Vision that lets you see through walls.

New game mode called Regicide is a variation of the free for all mode.

"Playing on Warhouse and Warparound felt like classic Halo MP action"

Again, I feel like this game could use a Public multiplayer Beta...

Frankie's Response On NeoGaf

The magazine scans were always going to come out the day after the cover debuted, that almost always happens. We can't talk about the story in detail, because it is GI's exclusive. I will say that some of the things that "invested, emotional" players are "raising eyebrows slightly at" are being very misinterpreted ("random" weapon spawns for example) but we will be able to clarify some of those things in due time.

Some of the other features, abilities, are also being discussed with no context (not your guys' fault, obviously) and frankly, a video of TS would probably allay many of the especially hysterical reactions, but we're not there yet.

We haven't seen a single reaction we didn't expect (apart from the Dax love story) and we will clarify a lot of this stuff 100% in the coming weeks and months. SOME of the things in here won't be properly understood outside of a holistic experience (modes, progress, fictional setting, etc) but I am going to say one thing and leave it at that:

It feels like Halo, it does NOT feel or act like the other game(s) it's being compared to. Again, without playing it, you can't be blamed for jumping to certain conclusions.

A summary of the GI article

  • Halo 4 is set in 2557 - four years, seven months and ten days since the FUD was split into two and the finale of the events of Halo 3.
  • True native 720p with FXAA
  • New HUD, features subtle paralla movement during athetic actions and additional visual cues indicating that you are actually wearing a helmet.
  • Chief, Cortana and other characters animated with the assistance of motion capture.
  • Cortana impending rampancy will be a critical theme as will be exploring Master Chief as a person.
  • Cortana has chosen a new visual identity whilst the Chief has been sleeping.
  • The Covenant, at least Elites and Grunts, return but are not the primary enemy.
  • The FUD eventually crash lands on Requiem, a planet enclosed in a massive Dyson Shell.
  • A new faction from Reqium is introduced. Like the Covenant they will have unique and different enemy types, weapons and equipment. "If anything, they're kind of elevated in terms of their intelligence and complexity relative to the Covenant."
  • Huge, alive environments - a piece of concept art depicts a floating air squid in a jungle setting.
  • The skybox is filled with massive pillars reaching down from above and the surrounding view is painted by the inside of the Dyson Shell.
  • Game is split between Campaign and Infinity - the new term of the entire multiplayer experience seperate from the Camapign.
  • Multiplier directly and in-directly ties into the Campaign.
  • Multiplayer features Spartan IV's - adult volenteers taken from the the best of special ops soliders, equippe with a new version of the Mjolnir armour (lightweight variation) and deployed onboard the UNSC Infinity.
  • The UNSC Infinity is the largest ship the UNSC has ever created. Over three kilmetres long, it was designed with cutting edge technology and features some additional technological enhancements provided by the study of Forerunner technology - including faster and more accurate slipspace travel.
  • The UNSC is deployed on a top scret mission into deep space but will cross paths with the Master Chief during the campaign.
  • The Spartan IV's onboard train in the Infinity's "combat deck" (think holodeck or Danger room). The deck and simulate any known environment and plays host the the multiplayer games players are familar with.
  • Firefight is absent and it is stated that there are no plans for it to return.
  • New Co-Op mode called Spartan Ops for up to four players in online Campaign-esque missions.
  • Spartan OPs introduces new movies sequences and missions on a weekly basis which tells the story of the UNSC Infinity's mission and battles the new Spartan IV's face.
  • Spartan Op missions are objective based and feature new content, events and locations each week. Spartan Ops missions also reward Spartan Points and feature selectable difficulty levels like Campaign.
  • Spartan Ops missions are not DLC, they are included in the overall Halo 4 package but it is unclear if the content is available on the disc or must be downloaded separately.
  • Weapons in the overal sandbox include Assault Rifle, Battle Rifle, DMR, Assault Carbine, Covenant Carbine, Shotgun, Rocket Launcher, Sniper Rifle, Magnum and Plasma Pistol. There are numerous unrevealed, new weapons.
  • Loadouts are composed of a primary and secondary weapon, a grenade type, armour ability and modifications. It is unclear how the modification system works or what things it modifies or how.
  • Returning Armour Abilities include Hologram, Jet-Pack and Camo. A new ability to see through walls was shown and Sprint is now a baseline ability all players will have access to at all times.
  • FFA Variant, Regicide. Lead slayer is "King" - each of the King;s kills raises his "bounty". The bounty is claimed by whomever kills the King.
  • In Team Slayer (not confirmed for other gametypes), players can respawn instantly after death if they choose. Additionally, power weapons are introduced into a game on a random timer and appear at random drop points on the map.
  • Medals are turning including new medals for "revenge kills" and for causing a distraction.

-Weapon spawns will not be completely random.

-Power weapons wont be flung around in player spawns( so rockets wont drop right next to your spawn).

-You will be unable to spawn with power weapons.(Sniper, rockets, shotgun[?]).

- custom load-outs will be much like GoW3( you can pick from limited basic weapons).

-Map control will still be a big part of multiplayer.

Rumor. not confirmed.

We will not be talking about ranking or progression in detail for a while. We are not using TruSkill in the same way Reach did. That's about all we can say for now.

Suffice it to say the game will match people appropriately

might be something in the vein of halotracker.
