Next-Gen Consoles Rumors & Related NEWS

Recommended Posts

these small time will again be competiting against them only to produce the demands of next gen instead of making it look like this gen thus again back to square one (high cost)...

PSV proves you wrong. (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=436563).

I have seen the same confirmed by a few developers like Falcom in their interviews, the new system has been made with the aim of bringing down development costs. I don't see why a similar policy won't be adopted for the new consoles.

and PS2 pwns everything we have today, the sheer number and variety of games was amazing, now all we have is a shooter set in past/present/future/space/other planet

Reason being that PS2 games did not require a million in sales to break even.

Xbox 720 Logo In Real Steel Trailer!

Hugh Jackman's new robot fighting movie Real Steel looks incredibly stupid. However, it might have provided us with one of the biggest video-game scoops of the year. In a new trailer for the game, an observant gamer spotted an Xbox 720 logo in a shot of in-arena advertising in the trailer.

Does this mean that next Microsoft console is indeed called the Xbox 720? Considering the film takes place in 2020, it's most definitely a gag. You almost caught us, though.

Nonetheless, I've blown up a still from the trailer so you can see it a big larger. You can also watch the trailer for yourself below. The logo is at the 0:46 mark.

Thats some developer trolling us.

1) I dont think its gonna be called Xbox 720.

2) Even if it is, think of why that logo should be there? Either its a paid advert or its there for shits and giggles. And it cant be a paid advert because MS arent really insane.

I wish the Internet was a little lets nuts with the rumors. But then it wouldnt be so much fun.

first of all a development cost of handheld will always be lower compared to console version.

as far as i know xbox 360 is also much easier in development compared to ps3 but it also had its own share of high development cost.....also these days just development cost is not everything to bring out the game in the market .... heavy marketing cost is also need to promote a game .....will that also come down for smaller developers with next gen console??

^In comparison to the psp as well. Point is that development costs did not increase in proportion to the hardware.

And they can't spend heavily on marketing, which is why they need to make a profit from limited sales.

the idea of earning some profit from limited sales is not gonna help them grow among the bigies .....that is why they go and take the risk of developing games that competites with the other AAA titles to grow and reach a broader market ....if it was just to spent small development cost and make some profit while at it....they better make games for psn/xblive only.....it is much safer and it is available this gen only.....

It worked fine for them on ps2, and gamers could choose from a large variety of games. PSN/XBL is too limited, we need to take it up a notch so that they can bring out decent looking hd titles.

it was not all glossy on ps2 also i believe....lot of small studios and some even big ones(clover) got closed....beside you also will agree that gaming preferences and demand for particular genres has also gone quite a shift from last gen....

Xbox 720 In the Works? Next-Gen Xbox Employee Info Uncovered

We all know that there will be a next-gen Xbox. Whether it's the Xbox 720, NeXtbox, or whatever catchy name Microsoft can think of, there will be one. The question is when. According to the titles and descriptions of several Microsoft employees, the next-gen Xbox could be closer than we think. That's not to say the launch date or console reveal is any closer, but these titles and descriptions could, at least suggest, Microsoft is working on a next-gen Xbox console.

According to Microsoft employee Jeff Faulkner's profile, he has been working as "Xbox Next Gen Creative Director" since January 2011, where he "guides the vision for Xbox's User Experience Design across Social Media, User Experience, Entertainment, Gesture and Voice Input, Information Design and Brand and Visual design." That's a hell of a lot to be working on. Judging by the description, it doesn't sound as if he's focused on designing the new console, but rather the social experience that will be implemented with it.

Similarly, Senior Creative Director for Xbox, Jonathan Harris, job description says he's been "designing the next generation of entertainment" for the past 14 months.

Microsoft even has the interns hard at work on the new console. Joe Lagevin, the Xbox Hardware Intern at Microsoft, has "designed and simulated high speed data buses to prevent electromagnetic interference in next-gen devices." That sounds like a pretty important job for an intern to handle.

Finally, the icing on the cake goes to Patrick Corrigan, who worked at Microsoft from February 2011 to June 2011 "Providing groundwork and integration for branding elements for next-gen Xbox on all forms of media. Ranging from print to UI across future releases of the Xbox platform."

So let's analyze this. What we have here is a bunch of Microsoft employees with Next-gen in their job titles. When you hear next-gen you automatically think the next-generation form of consoles for the Xbox 360. And while we're all hoping for a new Xbox console, their job descriptions completely describe something else.

Microsoft has already said the Xbox Kinect is their version of the Xbox 720. Yet people refuse to believe it. They still insist on a new console from Microsoft that will be called the Xbox 720. Even Real Steel knows the Xbox 720 is coming damnit!

Maybe our definition of next-gen and Microsoft's definition of next-gen are completely different. To us, next-gen means a new console with upgraded graphics, better gameplay, faster processing, and more features. To Microsoft, maybe next-gen means simply upgrading the current Xbox 360 by incorporating more social media elements into it. Where, in any of their job descriptions, does it suggest that a new Xbox console will need to be created to implement anything they are working on? Microsoft is already on it's way towards increasing the user experience on the Xbox 360. With the new Dashboard update bringing users Bing, video services, and all sorts of Kinect compatibility, maybe that is the "next-gen step" Microsoft is taking.

Sony studios 'begin PlayStation 4 projects'

Preliminary work on PlayStation 4 games has begun at several internal Sony studios, Develop understands.

A trusted source connected to the matter has told Develop that various game projects are at very early stages, though didn’t reveal which of Sony’s sixteen first-party studios had been delegated the work.

Few in the games business expect a new PlayStation to launch before 2014 – the next few Christmases will likely see Sony marketing software for PS3, Move and its new Vita handheld.

A Sony spokesperson has declined to comment.

The discovery comes as rival platform holder Microsoft continues work on its next-generation system. Develop has published data from various sources that points to a Christmas 2013 release for the so-called ‘Xbox Next’.

Make no changes to the device case, add a slightly upgraded processor, and name it XBOX 360S. Millions of people will be fooled into thinking it is some awesomely new device chock full of magic unicorns, and the media as well as emo boys and girls world over will line up so that will believe that they are better than everyone else with their purchase.
