Valve working on 'Steam Box' gaming console!

Thank you.

Anaemic specifications till now, no mention of a graphic card this is one expensive box that I would not touch, better to get a custom built mini-ITX PC place it in a BitFenix Prodigy type cabinet and it can be kept in your living room no problems (will play games as well).

This is the one that had the infinity ward logo on the sides during a promo a while ago isn't it ? At that price , custom build a desktop and be happy for the next 2 years of mid-high end nextgen titles with big picture on televisions. Spend a tad more , get an Alienware / Falcon Northwest deskys and sit back for the entire generation , gaming as well as workload.

The ONLY defense they can come up with is this being as mentioned in their about page " a cost-effective modular computer design " that's low on power consumption , relies on digital disty for apps and cloud computing. Good move forward but cost-effective ? Pfft , when the average consumer isn't ready for the price of SSD's yet , it can't become mainstream overnight with this.

The actual steambox which entirely concentrates on getting steam to the living room , as a console hybrid , won't even be half as pricey as this. Somewhere around / if not lesser than the PS4 / Xbox looks real.

UPDATE: Valve has distanced itself from the Xi3 Piston, dubbed an unofficial Steam Box.

It

had been believed that Valve had backed the grapefruit-sized computer

ahead of the release of its own Steam Box, but this appears to be false.

Valve's

Doug Lombardi told Eurogamer that Valve had some dealings with Xi3

Corporation, the company behind the Piston, but not any more.

"Valve began some exploratory work with Xi3 last year, but currently has no involvement in any product of theirs," he said.

His words seem to show that they did indeed have a similar idea, otherwise why would they even have had any involvement. If that's the case, it's just gonna be a moderately powered PC for maybe not as high a price as this that's in a small sized box. And then we'll hear the PC master race who so adamantly worshiped the prospect of the steambox turn apologists for a not-hyper-powerful PC :P Assuming that does happen that is.

Valve seem to be sticking their penis into everything other than the one thing which millions of people have been waiting for the past 6 years.

Yeah, one f**king episode and they can't deliver :fogug: When will it ever come out.
