From Wikipedia -

Final Fantasy 0 Shiki is a video game for the Playstation Portable which, alongside Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, makes up the compilation Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy XIII so far. The game is not a sidestory to Final Fantasy XIII; it is part of one story which will have shared themes and mythos around which all the Final Fantasy XIII games will be centered. Agito is Latin for "to put in motion." While a release outside of Japan has not been announced, Hajime Tabata is trying to appeal to the North American players in his direction of the game.

The game's plot is thought to be "massive" and is still being finalized as of June 2008. The game is set in a magic school named Akademeia, and will gradually expand to the larger world outside of the school. It is described as an online RPG, but not "massively multiplayer". It's been recently revealed that Orience is the name of the world, and the antagonizing military country is called Milites. A peace treaty is supposed to be in effect with the 4 countries, but Cid of Milites has sent his l'Cie soldier to war with the neighboring countries.

From the IGN Impressions of the trailer that was debuted at Square Enix's closed door party, DKΣ3713, we learned that there is a militaristic nation that, due to the machination and rallies of their leader, began conquering all of its neighboring nations. The nation went unimpeded until they came across a lone island kingdom isolated from the rest of the continent that was apparently being protected by a giant crystal. However, for reasons unknown, the crystal shatters, seemingly leaving the nation vulnerable to be attacked. The kingdom's fear is realized when a cloaked woman, wielding a "whip sword" along with other blades, appears with a massive army in formation behind her. The trailer continues with random bits of fighting in CG along with gameplay, and ends with the cloaked woman sticking a flag in the ground, which is most likely that of the kingdom nation, rallying her allies.

Twelve characters have been revealed so far, all appearing to be students. Their weapons include a longsword, a katana, handguns, a shotgun, a mace, a bow and arrow, a spear, a scythe, an extending flail, bare fists, a flute, and a deck of Tarot cards. The Moogle, a creature that has appeared in previous Final Fantasy games, is not — but is commonly mistaken to be — a 13th character, but rather appears to be summoned by the girl with the flute. The character with the deck of cards has been revealed to have a greater importance than the other characters (shown in a pamphlet at the 2006 Tokyo Game Show).

Final Fantasy Agito XIII Has Harsh Visualizations of War

Square Enix's Hajime Tabata is likely to be busy over the next few months as The 3rd Birthday approaches its Winter release.

But, simultaneous with the Parasite Eve followup, Tabata is also directing another major PSP title, Final Fantasy Agito XIII. While development on this is trailing The 3rd Birthday, Tabata wasn't too shy to answer a few questions in a recent interview conducted in Dengeki PlayStation.

Asked for a status update on the game's production, Tabata said "The 3rd Birthday takes priority, but development is still steadily progressing. I believe it will be an FF that differs from the image fans have."

Asked what this means, he responded, "We're making it into a game where you can feel the true pain and weight as a war story. Because it has some harsh portrayals, Kitase (producer Yoshinori Kitase) is freqently making checks.

Kitase chimed in here with some further explanation: "There are parts where you see a soldier burned and falling over after being struck by fire. Initially, I warned them to not go too far in their expressions, but now I'm telling them to do whatever they want."

Closing off this little tease, Tabata said: "It's a full spec Final Fantasy that's multiplayer and can be played on the PSP. Please anticipate it greatly."

lol definitely not. Take the Crisis Core ending as an example. The CG part was awesome and necessary, but the things that really made it great was the final scripted fight, the way the DMW broke down, Zack getting shot by the soldiers etc. Its tougher, but definitely possible.

And don't forget this. :samui:

Square Enix’s most ambitious PSP Final Fantasy game detailed

As part of Sony’s PSP event Square Enix also revealed a great cross section of Final Fantasy Type-0. This is by far the most ambitious project Square Enix has worked on to date on the PSP.

Final Fantasy Type-0 was originally named Final Fantasy Agito XIII and planned for mobile phones but later re-announced for the PSP in 2008. The game is still part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis universe (Final Fantasy XIII).

The game will also support Ad-hoc and infrastructure multiplayer support so up to three players can take on the role of the other characters in the party in the single player story.

As reported by CVG, Square Enix revealed that Final Fantasy Type-0 will be the first PSP game ever to ship on two UMDs. The game seems to be a natural evolution of the franchise more so than Crisis Core was. In Crisis Core, the developers made the game into an action oriented hack-n-slasher. With Type-0, Square Enix incorporated the real-time action combat mixed with the party system.

The game will still be ATB driven (Active Time Battle menu system), but instead of the menus players will be able to invoke the action via button presses. The developers indicated that Final Fantasy Type-0 will have the fastest ATB system ever created.

The world map makes a return to the Final Fantasy series stronger than ever in the Type-0. Players will travel to other towns and cities by walking, riding a chocobo and flying an airship.

It appears that players will participate in some sort of rudimentary real-time strategy (RTS) gameplay on the world map. There may be battles or wars on the map and the player can impact the outcome via the world map by lending support without transferring to a separate battle screen.
