RIP!
Saw Avatar Fire and Ash.
I really liked the first half. But by the end I was really disappointed with it.
Pros:
Looks amazing as usual. You genuinely forget that you're watching CG characters and not straight up live-action. 3D is great too. I think nowadays this is the only movie that delivers good 3D.
Acting was good. No major complaints.
Cons:
The movie feels like Avatar 2: Part 2 instead of Avatar 3. The subtitle is "Fire and Ash" but there's only ONE scene that takes place in the volcanic ash-lands. Rest of the movie takes place completely in the Water and Floating Rocks / Jungle area we've already seen in the past movies. This is my biggest complaint and is the most disappointing part. Avatar Way Of Water felt so different with the new water creatures, a whole host of new characters and all and here in this movie there's not a single new creature from the Volcanic area and there's only one new character from the Ash tribe. (The villain lady from the trailers)
2nd biggest complaint: The entire last hour of the movie feels the exact same as the last hour of previous movie. Story beats are the exact same, happening in the same place. Similar big climax happens. I dont want to say more for spoilers reasons but by the end of the movie the overall story progress is almost 0.
Apparently both 2 and 3 were filmed togther and unfortunately it shows. Lots of shared locations and characters and even story. Almost feels like this was some kind of parallel movie to 2. Like maybe it was all one movie and then they split off some arcs into this but they neede to converge into the same finale so they just re-did the finale again.
Anyway enough of a rant. I know Avatar has never been great on story but I was really hoping to see new fire based creatues and sh*t.
