Before we start, have a look at this faptastic fanmade Trailer.

Kart Racing:

Gran Turismo 5 marks the very first time kart racing has been available in a Gran Turismo game. Karts are a popular way for car enthusiasts and aspiring race car drivers to experience racing firsthand, and in the context of Gran Turismo 5 karts provide a great way to practice and master racing techniques on a smaller and safer scale.

And of course kart racing in Gran Turismo 5 won't be anything like your average kart racing game. The driving physics and dynamic characteristics have been meticulously recreated through the game's brand-new advanced physics engine, based on the kart's unique size, ride height, tires, aerodynamics and engine, making racing a kart feel just as realistic as any of the other cars in the game. Kart racing delivers a whole new layer of fun and excitement to Gran Turismo 5.

The Career mode in GT5 is known as GT life and you have two options to choose for what you want to become in the game, a racing driver in A spec mode or a racing team director in B spec mode.

According to Yamauchi

As a major feature for GT5, Yamauchi mentioned that the game gives equal billing to A Spec and B Spec modes. In the previous GT, B Spec was included as an experimental component. In GT5, however, both A Spec and B Spec modes can be played from start to finish. They're both full experiences. The race categories and other areas are basically the same between the two.

"Basically" the same, but not identical. There are some differences. A certain race in A spec will be three laps, while the same race in B spec will be 15 minutes. The reason for such differences is that B spec is meant to be a mode where players can enjoy strategy.

Yamauchi feels that GT5 makes clearer the difference between A spec and B spec. Both have been built up as individual games.

For B spec mode, the driver growth component has been made more detailed. GT5 adds in elements of driver personality, physical strength and mental strength. Drivers may get tired during long drives and becoming more mistake prone. Driver management has become more important for GT5.

So why did Yamauchi and crew want to make B spec into a true mode with GT5? Explained Yamauchi, GT5's user base consists of two types of players, those who have great skills, and those who simply like cars and races but aren't particularly good at gaming. The team wanted to deal with the problem of only some players being successful at the game. Making it so that players of all levels can enjoy the game in the same way requires some extremely tough balance on the development team's part. The B spec specification is one answer to this issue.

B spec is not just a mode meant to help beginners, of course. Yamauchi pointed out that only B spec gives players the feeling being a team leader and raising a driver while enjoying the occasional happening.

He also noted that you can have multiple drivers on your team. This can be useful for long races, as you can switch out drivers.

A-Spec:

In A-Spec mode, you take control of your destiny as you become a pro driver moving up the ranks. Hone your driving skills and take on a wealth of racing events and challenges and mastering driving techniques.

FVn2J.jpg

License:

Complete a variety of mini-events to learn everything from basic driving skills to advanced racing techniques.

Practice:

Take your favorite or newest car for a spin on the track for some solo practice time. Great for learning difficult tracks, mastering cornering techniques, and setting up your car for optimum performance.

image06a.jpg

B-Spec:

In B-Spec mode, you become the director of a racing team. You will not be driving yourself, but instead you will train an AI (Artificial Intelligence) driver, nurturing his skills and pushing him to the limits. Aiming for victory by giving directions during races, just like a real team director.

B-Spec mode first appeared in Gran Turismo 4, and Gran Turismo 5 takes it to the next level in what you could call a "Racing RPG" The AI drivers you develop in B-Spec mode have an ability gauge, condition status, and personality type. These factors will change as they compete in races under your guidance. Depending on the condition of the driver, they may not always listen to your directions as the team director. It's your job to train and develop your driver to perform and win races.

Garage:

You can also access the garage from GT Life screen, which allows you to collect all the 1000 cars and store them. It won't be that easy though, the credit requirements for some cars are insane although sharing vouchers and stuff with your friends should make it a bit easier.

You can buy new cars from the car dealer and there is a used car dealer available in the game as well.

The Online:

Personally for me, the online would be the best thing about GT5. We can expect this to be really good since PD had a separate team just for the Online. Not to mention Dedicated servers and 16 player racing, GT5 online should be a lot of fun. If you are planning to buy a copy of GT5 please head over to the GT5 racefests, trading and IVG online league thread and just post your PSN ID, I'll add your name in the OP. Trust me, it will be very popular, let me explain in detail why.

GT Lounge:

A Private Space for Close Friends Gathering Online

In Gran Turismo 5, every player has their own "My Lounge" racing room prepared for them online. This is a private room that only your "Friends" set through the PlayStation®Network can enter.

In My Lounge, it is possible to set race regulations and tracks of your choice, and hold racing events with your friends. Up to 16 players can participate in the race, and even if you are not in the race yourself, you can watch it through a variety of race cams. You can also participate in free runs before the start of the race.

Imagine this: You set a time for a race using the messaging feature, and then wait for people to arrive while you race free runs on the track. Your friends start to join one by one, and once everyone’s arrived, the race can be started. Friends that showed up later can watch the race and chat.

  •
  • In my lounge, you can wait while watching current races through the live cameras, provided with a large variety of different camera angles.

    6if52.jpg

  • You can monitor the lap times and best section times of participating friends, and of course you can also chat by voice or text.

    n4bnk.jpg

  • You can watch the race from exciting views, as if you were in the race yourself.

Note: You can also upload your replays to youtube.

To communicate with your friends there are a plethora of options such as

1. Your own messageboard

image02a.jpg

2. Trading, give your friend a voucher to buy cars or even gift a car

image03a.jpg

3. Share photos

“My Lounge is GT5’s hub from which you’ll access all of GT5’s new online features. Hit the Community tab and you’ll pull up a bulletin board filled with your latest stats and your recent mail from friends and other players. You can browse through your friends’ bulletin boards and check their progress on and offline, and send out mail and challenges. My Lounge supports voice chat for up to 32 players and lets you host 16-player online races or spectate on races in progress, as well as watch the GT-TV VOD service and race replays.”

Stereoscopic 3D and Head Tracking:

Yeah, GT5 supports 3D, In case you are one of those rare people who own a 3DTV, you should really give it a shot. Improved depth and track perception makes it easier to detect corners and avoid those mistakes that you would do in the 2D mode. 3D changes the way you normally play video games, although expensive it really should be experienced at least once.

Since most of you have a PS Eye, how do I know that, you ask?, well I am sure most of you have bought a Move starter pack ;) just use the eye, at least its good for something. Although not as accurate as those

made for racing sims, the PS Eye will do its job well.

"The concept itself is simple enough -- it’s a camera that tracks the movement of your head -- but the results are breathtaking. If you’ve never seen this new technology in action, watch the following demos and you’ll quickly realize the implications of such a feature in Gran Turismo 5. "

Head Tracking Video

Telemetry/Data logger:

According to Jordan from GTPlanet:

"Telemetry data and analysis is one of the most valuable tools that a driver can use to find out where he is losing time around the track and how the car can be improved. That’s why it is employed by every professional racing team that can afford it, and it will be very useful for any GT player who is serious about becoming a better driver."

The Telemetry system in GT5 is really complicated but you should get the hang of it as you tinker around with it.
