I remember reading some article recently, industry analysts believe that this generation may not have a mid gen refresh, so slim chances of a ps5 pro. (but not for a ps5 slim, that may very well happen)

The reasons cited were that
1)its becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with Moore's law.
2)And that the current gen hardware is more capable than the prevalent current gen game tech and engines. So its unlikely that they would feel the need to do a ps5 pro 2-3 yrs down the line. And even if they wanted to, the increase in power necessary to make the release successful would push up the unit cost to unaffordable levels.

Made sense to me. What do you guys think?

I think if an updated version does come out, it would just be a form factor update like the ps4 slim, and it would be a chance for Sony to fix all the hardware issues that got left in the ps5 launch unit.

Moore's law won't have that much of an impact on the  next system it will all be a matter of whether amd can get it's sh*t together and offer a compelling dlss alternative and provide better rtx performance as comparable to a similarly spec nvidia card. Will depend on that if we get a mid gen refresh in 3-4 yrs or a new console in 6 years.

A mid gen refresh would depend on how widespread 4k 60 becomes in the next couple of years. (Software + hardware (display)).

Sony has gone the pc way this time. Complex games need longer development times. I think the present hardware is more than enough for 4-5 years atleast. They should work on fixing various hardware issues (dualsense) and also on vr 2.0 instead.

Or just fix the drift issues with V2.

My ps5 has started drifting across the tv unit now.
