silentassassin
While the PS3’s defenses against unauthorized code have remained impenetrable up until now, hacker Geohot of iPhone fame claims he is the first to discover an exploit, a feat that will no doubt garner the attention of Sony. In a post on his personal blog, Geohot touts that he has managed to work around the PS3’s privileged-based hypervisor security system and gain “read/write access to the entire system memory” in addition to “HV level access to the processor.” I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. I have a lot of reversing ahead of me, as I now have dumps of LV0 and LV1. 3 years, 2 months, 11 days…that’s a pretty secure system Took 5 weeks, 3 in Boston, 2 here, very simple hardware cleverly applied, and some not so simple software. Coy on details, he further notes that idea behind this purported exploit is “not really patchable,” admitting that implementation of the logic behind it all may prove to be more challenging in future firmware releases if Sony decides to respond. And inevitably, they will. As of now Geohot has chosen to keep his findings under wraps but in all likelihood, it looks like we’ll be hearing more soon. Interesting times ahead, that’s for sure. http://geohotps3.blogspot.com/2010/01/hell...-im-geohot.html

XeOn
hmmm... if they can find a way to dump the data directly on the drive and make the game work it would be amazing coz the cost of bluray writers and media is so costly that you would not mind paying for the originals.... or buy the game seconds.. dullu
from whatever we have heard so far; it was the locked out spu of the cell which prevented running any unauthorized code....could this guy really have bypassed that ???
XeOn
as of now he has just dumped LV0 and LV1... through that he can trace back to the locked SPU ... it might still take a while dullu...

Sumanth_Champion
Meh. Hope it gets patched if it happens simply because while it'll result in a huge spike in hardware sales, software sales will end up sucking. That may not be completely true. xbox has been hacked long time back and it is very easy to mod an xbox even the sales of xbox software doesn't suck. It matches or better than ps3.. silentassassin
GeoHot: I have PS3 function names and will zap the ones I don't like GeoHot's latest blog post refers to the fact that he now has knowledge of all the PS3's lv1 function names, and if they contain restrictions which are not hack-friendly, then he will simply ZAP them away! Genius! http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NJ4JFBfr1tY/S1uf...0-h/hvcalls.PNG
shockwave
no way... only my baby .. .. PS3 Then "I love buying games" is a sick overstatement. Unless you 'buy' the pirated games for your 360.
