Age 54 is dangerous territory as it is game over in your 70s and this high age will kind of carry over cumulatively over the remaining levels

Yup. Will definitely have to redo the previous level.

Finally gave in and bought the game at full price on PS store and I wasn't disappointed. Boy, does this game makes you feel like a badass kung-fu master!

It took me a while to get the timing right for the dodges and the parries but once it clicks with you, you feel like an absolute God! Beat the first level at age 22 and even got the trophy for beating a boss without dying :D

I love that everything in the game has a deliberate pace about it. It is not about frantic button mashing like most other action games. In fact, you mess up the combos if you input the combo sequence too fast.

I really don't think the dying mechanic of the game is as bad as it is made out to be. It would be bad if the levels were a chore to finish. But thankfully the combat is deep and varied enough to keep you entertained for multiple runs of the same level.

Sloclap games deservers a slow clap for this masterpiece. Definitely a GOTY contender in my books. :clapping:

Who made it out to be bad though?

Most of the negativity regarding the difficulty seems to be centered around it. At least on the reviews I’ve seen.

The game is meant to be played multiple times, like a rouge like. The ageing mechanic is there to facilitate it.

Ah, the ones I saw didn't really criticize the game for its difficulty. One of the only real complaints was the camera, which I feel is a valid one.

Yeah, it's pretty much a roguelite structured around mastering its combat system.

Yeah, the criticism about the camera is completely valid and can ruin a good run. I hope they can address it through patches.

The third boss is pretty f**king crazy!

Even with a direct shortcut to her, I only managed to beat her at age 71 :fear1:

Also, the long side-scrolling section in the third level is so f**king cool (even more so than the oldboy one) with you walking in like a badass and beating up fools, all while the camera is fixed in place in each section. It was very cinematic!

Only got to play a couple of hours today but cleared the club at age 32. Could have done it in my twenties but stage 2 of the boss kept spamming low attacks which gave me a lot of problems. Ended up dying to him a bunch of times.

Played the Museum level a bit and boy this game is fkin gorgeous! Love the art style and the colour palette. Watching the game on an oled screen in the dark is a treat. Tomorrow I will go back the the second level and try to clear it in my twenties.

Completed a deathless run of the first level. It's funny how much of a joke the first boss has become now. I pretty much manhandled the poor motherf**ker

Yeah, that low attack is a nightmare to predict and dodge. The Ground Counter skill came in pretty handy for me there. I figured if I'm anyway going to get knocked down a few times, I might as well use the opportunity to knock him down too.

Indeed! That level just oozes style. Some very cool looking sections in there.

And the destructible environments add a little extra oomph to the proceedings.

The game is an absolute f**king steal at 400rs!

For phase 2 block his initial first 2 attacks that way you don’t have to guess whether it will be low or high, and then avoid the remaining attacks and punish.

Completed level 2 at age 23. Almost managed to do it deathless but the boss killed me twice :ranting:

Finding the game very addicting. The levels seem almost infinitely replayable as you always have this urge to do better next time.

Nice! I did it at age 27. Same thing happens to me. Reached Sean deathless. His phase 1 is a joke but he goes super saiyan on phase 2.

The ground counter tip is a good one. Helps me deal some damage if I am going to be on my a*s for half of the boss fight.

On a side note, what are you guys’ favourite upgrades? For me strong sweep focus, environmental mastery and spin hook kick are absolute must haves. Ground counter and chasing strikes are also pretty good.

The third boss is a real bitch. She can whittle down your health in the blink of an eye if you're not careful.

Managed to kill her at age 27 after multiple attempts. I'm sure I can do better, but I think I'll move on to the next level for now.

Strong sweep focus and environmental mastery for me as well. Although I only use the strong sweep when I'm up against multiple enemies. If I'm facing only an enemy or two, I usually go for the eye strike to leave the enemy dazed and then use the standard leg sweep on them.

Haven't used the other skills nearly enough. I always kinda forget what skills I've unlocked in the heat of the moment and just end up reverting to basics :P

I think playing the game with all the skills unlocked will be quite a bit of fun.

I faced the 3rd boss two times and I have no idea how to evade her attacks. Barely scraped through to phase 2 which was easier than phase 1 but still died to her. I have not really used the elevator shortcut yet. Just exploring the level for now. This is my favourite level yet. A good variety of enemies, cool sequences, destructible environments, stunning graphics, this level has it all.
