Gameplay

There will be a storyline in TDU2 to follow for the player. To progress through the game, the player has to earn experience points. These can be earned via various ways, such as racing with friends and clubmembers, but also by driving like a daredevil and performing stunts, like drifting through turns. Exploring the island lets the player find vehicle wrecks which will unlock exclusive vehicles at the dealerships on the island, which automatically confirms the return of manufacturer showrooms like in the previous game.

Vehicles

New vehicle classes are included, such as SUV's for offroading. Not all vehicles are obtainable however; clubs can get exclusive clubcars when reaching high ranks. These exclusive vehicles, such as the McLaren MP4-12C and the Gumpert Apollo, can only be driven by one player at a time, and not by players from other clubs.

Vehicles feature cosmetic damage which does not affect the behaviour and technical aspects of the vehicles. There is no option to manually repair the vehicle, by resetting to the road or visiting a house the car may get fixed. Rainfall does affect the handling of the vehicles though, and also influences the appearance of a vehicle as rain washes off dirt. Eden has also spent years working on a new physics engine to ensure each vehicle has its own driving behaviour. New details and functions have been added, such as different headlight modes, turning signals and working convertible roofs. There is also a vinyl-editor which is said to be similar to that of Forza Motorsport.

Multiplayer

Test Drive Unlimited 2 has a similar online mode to the previous game. During free roaming, up to 8 players can join in a session at the same time. Improvements to the online aspects have lead to the fix of people quickly disappearing just after entering a session. In shops and clubs, up to 32 players can walk around at the same time. The ability to walk is also present in the new racing lobby. When waiting for every player to be ready to race, cars of the other players can be examined.

  • 2 weeks later...

German magazine GameStar's June issue reveals some more relevant information about the up and coming Test Drive Unlimited 2. With scans too.

The following information are what the magazine reveals of the game:

* Two-island confirmed: Ibiza has to share players with an improved and expanded Oahu. Oahu has been modified to fit better in this second Unlimited, and has many new roads, majority being new offroad routes. To get in Oahu you need to reach a certain level, as with Ford Island and the racetrack of TDU1. You'll travel by using an airport on each island. Completing Challenges, Cruise a lot, Collect many cars, houses and wrecks, and scoring on the Social aspects is needed to reach that level.

* Houses are able to be explored on-foot by the players.

* Rain washes dirt and mud off the vehicles.

* Weather varies from sunshine and rain to grown-up storms.

* New vehicle confirmed: Lancia Delta Integrale.

* New handling/physics: shown by a demo-comparism between Audi TT (AWD) and Ford Mustang Fastback (RWD) which showed how players can now feel more of the true car's behaviour.

* New menu shows statistics of your character: the left side shows overall progression and characterinfo, the right side shows detailed progression on what has been collected, won, etc.

Sure, we know that. But that isn't how licensing works. Who knows what deal Fiat agreed to.

Still, they have off road tracks, so there is a chance that it could be an old Stratos or Delta RS :wOOtjumpy:
