This is very very sad. A great player, sad to see him go like this.

The 35-year-old underwent an emergency operation in England and then flew home for further surgery in Cape Town. His medical team was confident that Boucher had a "reasonable recovery" of the vision in his left eye, but in his first interaction with the South African media since the accident, Boucher on Wednesday admitted he is unlikely to play any more professional cricket."It has been a difficult time for me mentally and physically. I have lost the lens, iris and pupil in my left eye. There was severe damage to my retina,” he said. "I have had two major operations and four blood draining operations in the past three weeks and physically, at times, I have been in a lot of pain.

"I believe I am in good hands with my eye specialist and I accept that the healing process is a long one and that attaining some vision in my left eye will take some time and a lot of patience.

"It does get uncomfortable at times and being a sportsman, I want to be active and outdoors but, without a pupil, I find any amount of sunlight very harsh and have thus been restricted to the confines of my home.

"It is unlikely that I will play any professional cricket again in the near future, which is very unfortunate as I was looking forward to contributing as a player for the Cobras. The risk of additional damage to my left eye or even damage to the other eye doesn't warrant it."

Am I the only one who is more appalled at yuvraj's selection more than the nohit sharma and nospin chawla ? I mean the guy hasn't played any form of cricket in over an year, just came out of cancer treatment and looks horribly out of shape even for cricket from the photoes I saw. Wassupwitdat ?

He's fit..

He's been training in NCA from around 3 months..

He even played a practice match and scored 47..

He hasn't played a single first class match, and very unlikely that he is fit for the WC. Again, I don't consider the selectors a wise bunch, they prove it over and over....the face value comes ahead of everything else.

Obviously, if this was any other country, he had to prove himself that he is fit, he would have been required to play a season of club matches, fight his way into team like anyone else...but then who doesn't like free meals. :)

It reminds me of that Cuba gooding Jr movie. The guy was best at what he used to do, and that period's negroid-hate aside, it did raise natural question that whether he can do it again after losing a leg.
