EA has a special talent for that though.

EA is bigger than T2 and had/has many studios under them. So the number will always be high compared to others.

At EA, when it comes to racing, nothing is bigger than NFS. Worst case scenariothey keep the F1 license alive and put everyone else on to NFS. Best case scenario: They bang a top notch racing IP now that the Codemasters team will be free from their production budget limitations. Built on SMS engine.

Only time will tell. Hoping they succeed.

What a waste to who?

F1 is big $$$ potential with yearly release and getting more popular. Revive/fix their NFS franchise. GRID/DiRT/Project Cars can still use more titles. Buying experience, low cost development, IPs, etc,.

Codemasters is publicly traded company. They are just paying their market value + $200M so T2 doesn't get them.

This is true, but I have a feeling they're overpaying a bit.

T2 paying market cap itself seemed like a lot for a company that specializes in a waning genre and that makes less than $100M a year before expenses (assuming market cap/10).

Also. F1 as a series has been in decline for the past few years losing both revenue and TV viewers. I doubt there's potential to do crazy numbers there, but I could be wrong. It's like the WRC license Codies just picked up - these are niche series.

The way they're overlapping brands is also slightly worrying. Why go arcade with Project Cars when you have GRID for that? Doesn't really make sense.

Maybe rename the thread to EA's shopping basket:rofl:

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2021-02-08-ea-acquires-glu-mobile-in-usd2-1-billion-deal

EA acquires Glu Mobile in $2.1 billion deal

EA offers Glu shareholders a 36% premium on stock price as it tries to scale up its mobile business

Every big publisher is buying these days.

Embracer bought Gearbox for over a billion.

EA bought Codemaster and now Glu mobile for over a billion each.

Nintendo bought Next Level Games.

Last year Microsoft bought Zenimax/Bethesda.

etc,. The competition will eventually be just big 4-8 publishers playing. EA/Activision/SONY/Microsoft/T2/Nintendo.
