The Playstation 5 thread

Rather than scalpers, a far more plausible explanation is this -

India is a very low priority market. We are getting the remains of the ME/Gulf stock. When ME/Gulf got the new 1100A models, they pushed the remaining 1000 series models in India. it's official Sony stock, but we are not getting the new models till the old ones are cleared out.

For console HW, we are pretty much dependent on Sony ME. From what I remember, there were numerous reports that PS5 was supposed to launch here with the rest of the World. But due to very high demand, units meant for us was diverted to the ME countries. So our PS5 launch got delayed by 6 months or so. India is very low on PS5 supplies in Sony's eyes. Sony India only cares about TVs, and we get latest model Sony TVs here sometimes before US even. But for PS5, it's like they are doing us a favor even supplying it.

So yup, not scalper, not Amazon/FK - blame Sony for this one.

Yeah. Sounds about right. Older production units pushed to India, newer ones to important markets. It's just a supply chain issue. No conspiracy around it.

I don’t think many ppl here in India can even afford to buy AAA-AA software worth 5-3k on day-1.

I don’t think Sony will be interested to sell consoles here at losses without having them royalties come to them as soon as possible.

Before anyone thinks M$ would be more interested then that’s not true either.
Their end game is to collect the monthly fee of $15 from every owner at some point in the future…which is like 1.2k a month & which is too much aswell for Indian gamers.

Ultimate in india is Rs 800 not 1.2k .

Whatever it is priced at this phase doesn’t really matter.

I’m talking about the end game of their strategy, once they are actually expecting fruitful returns.

Netflix just reduced their price in India.

I feel gamepass price will come down instead of going up.

Once these big companies have recoup their investment, cost of these services inevitably come down due to competition.

Gamepass already reduce it. It used to be 1000rs per month for Ultimate and 700rs for GP.

Netflix has reduced coz it has many many low cost competitors locally.

& it doesn’t really offer or has ever promised same content worldwide.

I don’t see how that can be factored in here.

But why not…..

Apples vs Oranges.

Netflix has invested huge in India - from regional shows to regional pricing. They also have a lot of competitors in the country, and they also piloted their mobile only plans in India.

As such, they have a lot of skin in the game, and the decreased prices to increase market share. They, in fact, increased prices in US and some other countries to offset loss due to Indian prices.

MS, OTOH, has minimal skin for Indian players. If a few hundred or thousand don't subscribe for 800 bucks a month, it will hardly make a dent in their revenue.

The only way MS can make a dent in Indian markets : if they acquire playstation division from sony.

Sony enjoys tremendous first movers advantage and unless MS develops household names like kratos, Nathan Drake, spiderman etc, they can never even think of infiltrating markets like India. That too with an online only model.

Even if they offer gamepass for free with every xbox purchase (even for one year), they won't be able to dent Sony's market share (in india).

Those PvP mobile  games are 100 percent free. Also, their controls are optimised for mobile play. Mechanics are simple. They lack any figment of story/single player. (Except genshin impact, which is not as popular as pubg in india).

Try playing some aaa fps with a deep learning curve and complex controls on a touchscreen and then we'll talk.

LMAO.

Household names like Kretos and Nathan Drake.

They are pretty unknown characters everywhere, not just India.

Spiderman, Mario are only known characters in India.

MS just need to keep doing what they are doing. Allow their teams to make good stuff.

So unknown that 91% of console owners of India purchased a platstation just to experience those games. Screenshot_20211229-145609640 (1).jpg

Xcloud can totally take off here. Most people I know have a tangential interest in gaming but not interested in the upfront investment and expensive games.

Needs closer servers, CDNs etc. High ping times can be killer. Possible tie up with big ISPs needed.

But who cares ? Mobile gaming is accessible, and entry is free. Look at the revenue. India tops the list of mobile game downloads. Also look at the amount of money earned by freemium games. Makes AAA stuff look like child's toy by comparison.

Yes. But only a specific type of mobile games only.

If every developer start focussing on making such type of games, the quality of gaming in general would take a severe hit.

Yeah. True that. Maybe they are winning in volumes.

Errrrr...open your eyes, or better, Play Store. Hard to find anything decent which is not freemium.

Heck, my mom has 100s of Candy Crush clones on her phone, and God knows what's getting hacked and tracked.

I think she spends more time playing mobile games than me playing on consoles.
