So they corrected it. He was 20 when he had Sarah who died when she was 12, and the events in part 1 takes place 20 years after that, so he should've been 52. I dunno why the original game's wiki mentions him in late 40s. If that was true Sarah would've born when he was 16.

This dialogue in the original implies that Joel became a father in his teens, probably in high school.

Especially when there's a big gulf between gameplay graphics and pre-rendered cutscenes in the original. And people pick up cutscenes when comparing it with the remake.

If I recall correctly, they replaced the gameplay models with the cutscene models for the Remastered version, which means the gameplay graphics was as good as the pre-rendered cutscenes.

What are you talking about? Ellie's gameplay model in remaster looks like demon child compared to cutscenes. Where do you pull these titbits from?

This is true for all ND games except remake where gameplay and cutscenes use same model.

Yes its a bullshit article from Polygon, or a bullshit claim from ND before release. We know for a fact that pre-rendered cutscenes in all ND games run higher quality assets than gameplay. That's why they are pre-rendered   Remake is the first one where this is not true and they made it one of the key marketing points.

I mean, this is a shitty capture on YouTube. You played the remake on an OLED. Should probably try replaying the Remastered version before making conclusions like that.

I have probably put in around 120 hours on the remastered and part 2, each.

The capture has nothing to do with it. All youtube videos are compressed and look inferior compared to native console output, even the remake.

Even if you don’t account for YouTube’s compression, they are still not the same when you watch a recorded version off the console directly.

Bro, you are right in the case of the PS3 version. It obviously wasn't powerful enough to have the cutscene models during gameplay, but the PS4 was and therefore they replaced the lower res gameplay models with the cutscene ones. However, they still used the pre-rendered cutscenes for the Remastered version probably because doing it in real time meant redoing(remaking) all the cutscenes which was probably too much work, especially when you consider that the difference is just the absence of that black frame between gameplay and cutscenes.

They retconned Joel's age by the way. He was in his late 40s in the original. 52 in the remake.

Damn, this totally changes the dynamic of this game.

i guess this is the reason why it is being called as Remade for the ps5 from the “ground up”, The change is earth shattering.

damn sony.

Lol, I was just sharing something I learned. Didn't imply that it was good or bad. I guess it kind of explains why remake Joel looks 4-5 years older than the original.
