  7. Microsoft shoots down Sony’s claims that its Activision acquisition is anti-competitive The claims are “simply unjustifiable under any quantitative or qualitative analysis”, the xbox company says. Microsoft stated: “Not surprisingly, Sony was the only third party to convey public opinion materially different from MS/ABK and the third parties regarding the competitive analysis of the transaction.” Microsoft claimed that Sony doesn’t want to see Call of Duty games on Game Pass on day one, because it “is not resigned to having to compete with Microsoft’s subscription service”. “Sony’s public outcry on subscription games and the company’s response are clear: Sony doesn’t want attractive subscription services to threaten its dominance in the market for digital distribution of console games,” it claims. “In other words, Sony rails against the introduction of new monetization models capable of challenging its business model.” Microsoft also shoots down Sony’s claim that Call of Duty is a “category of games in itself”, stating: “The PlayStation itself has a foundation established by players loyal to the brand. “This finding, however, does not lead to the conclusion that the PlayStation – or any branded product with loyal consumers – is a separate market from all other consoles. “Extrapolating from such a finding, the extreme conclusion that Call of Duty is a ‘game category in itself’ is simply unjustifiable under any quantitative or qualitative analysis.” It also lists five reasons arguing against Sony’s claim that the addition of Activision Blizzard games to Game Pass would lead to an unattainable lead in subscription services for Microsoft. According to Microsoft, this claim is wrong because: - it’s not part of Microsoft’s strategy to remove content from players, and COD will still be on PlayStation as a paid title - data shows that players see subscription services as only one way to pay for games - Sony’s claim ignores the “dynamic nature” of subscription services, and the fact that Sony has its own too - (redacted information) - there are numerous other game distribution channels and subscription services, many of which include content that isn’t available on Xbox Microsoft also claims that arranging exclusivity deals has been at the heart of Sony’s strategy to strengthen its position in the games industry, and that as well as having its own first-party exclusives it also has exclusivity deals with third-party publishers. It also claims that Sony actively tries to hamper Game Pass’s growth by paying some developers for “blocking rights” to prevent them adding content to Game Pass. Finally, Microsoft claims that not having Call of Duty games on PlayStation wouldn’t make business sense, because it would only be profitable if enough people jumped over to Xbox to make up for the money lost from not selling PlayStation copies. -------------------- Like it or not, Sony has to take the L on this. I don't know about other anti-trust issues (which might be a different matter), but Sony's claims were futile to begin with.

  10. The way it happened is Xbox execs were discussing that we should compete with PS5 digital edition as its 40K, After several discussion they invite hardcore Xbot @El Tigre Chino into the room, he says Hold My Beer and suggests let’s increase the price as close to the PS5 digital edition so we are Neck to Neck in the market…

  17. Tomb Raider was riding high after the successful 2013 reboot, and all it took was a moronic decision to pull the game from two of its biggest platforms to kill that momentum. Rise being sh*t didn't help either. But still, imagine making your big IP exclusive to Xbone in 2015

  19. MS might be dumping big bucks but almost all of their strategy is pro-consumer and I don't think it is anti-competitive practice. At this point all of this is just a formality and the deal should move through. On the other hand in order to run their first party juggernaut, Sony has to keep on investing and earning big bucks and how they are going about this is there for all of us to see. Sony might be comparatively smaller than Microsoft but it is nowhere like a unicorn startup the way it being made out to be. The very reason Sony had been compelled to bring about a game pass alternative shows that when there is competition in market, consumers win. Why should anybody have a problem with that as long as MS is not monopolizing the market.

  23. I was a fan of gearbox software in general and (I'm still a fan of) Brothers in Arms series in particular, before they (Gearbox) went to the dogs. One of the best (if not the best) series based on WW2. The storytelling and its execution was unparalleled. Finally got the Special Physical Versions for the PC Lovely manuals. Had no idea about the existence of the symbian game. And finally, the best of the trilogy, Hells Highway. Absolutely love the box art on this one! I hope we get a proper part 4, someday!

  26. This one is not a Diversity Checklist. Netflix did not have the rights to John Constantine. HBO Max had the rights to John Constantine, and J.J. Abrams is developing a John Constantine show for HBO Max. Seems they are making a Justice League Dark show and John Constantine is going to be a central character in it. Still from all reports, the story is the same as the comics. I liked the portrayal of Constantine (and the sarcastic name "Johanna" which is just a female version of John and kind of a F.U. to HBO) That said though, the Constantine in this one was not that "Untrustworthy". I've seen other portrayals, like in DCeased comics - where John Constantine was a straight up a****hole. Here, the girl (and guy in comics I guess) was pretty friendly and trust-worthy. https://dmtalkies.com/john-constantine-replaced-by-johanna-in-netflix-the-sandman-2022/ https://geekositymag.com/rights-issues-prevented-john-constantine-on-netflix-the-sandman/
